There's No Bigger Asshole Than This Dude Who Faked Having A Sick Grandma In Order To Pretend To Hit A Hole-In-One To Win Money In A Member-Member

A lot of moving parts here, but everyone lays it out pretty good. Guy playing in a member-member out in St. Louis, good golfer, is in the first group of the day, tells his partners that his grandma isn't doing well, might have to take a call and all this stuff. Normal people say, yeah man, we get it, of course. Guy goes on to the 4th hole, saying he'll hit his tee shot to move up pace of play and then what do you know, an ace. Ends up being this whole elaborate scheme that honestly is just too much work for 2-10,000 bucks.

And yes, it's all true

[Source] - “WingHaven Country Club is aware of the recent attention surrounding an incident involving a former member during a Club event. The Club promptly addressed the matter,” Nathan Charnes, the acting PGA of America president and general manager at WingHaven, told GOLF, via e-mail. “We care deeply about the integrity of the game and the experience we provide for our members and guests. Because this situation involved the actions of an individual and has been resolved, we consider it closed and have no further comment.”

And let me be clear, this guy isn't an asshole for faking his grandma dying, that's the oldest lie in the book besides 'you're the best I've ever had'. This guy isn't even the biggest asshole for stealing the money. Doing all of this as a good golfer to take a hole-in-one should have him banned from playing golf ever again. Some of us are out here grinding away for pars and bogeys, scrambling around to avoid the double and finally get a birdie late in the game to convince us we can play better next time. If you're a +2 handicap and scheming for an ace, you are maybe one of the worst dudes in the world, without committing a heinous crime obviously.

I mean the guy is sneaking around putting fake divots in the green. That's a different level of delusion, even though I admit, he works hard at cheating. That might be a little bit of a compliment. But member-member is a sacred event. You look forward to that all year, bragging rights, just the ultimate competition for those of us who have nothing else left on the athletic side. A hole-in-one is everyone's dream. You do anything when you golf to just dream of that moment. You can't fake that. You can't fake the enthusiasm or to win any amount of money.

How about his apology too:

“I made a terrible mistake. The lack of moral character. I can take the banter and the chatter and the heat because I deserve that from a golf perspective. What I am most worried about is my family — breaking trust with a marriage that I have had for five years next month. We have two kids that are under 3 and it’s not fair to them for me to put them in that situation where when they walk through a room there is a stigma there that your dad is a [cheater]. So questions that they may get asked or be getting asked down the road, that’s the worst part. The golf is secondary.”

Buddy is talking about his kids getting heckled in daycare and pre school for him cheating? I mean credit the kids for knowing that and understanding. That would be fair play, especially since you got caught on camera in 2026 cheating. You have to know there are cameras everywhere in 2026. Dude is just the biggest asshole on the course.
