Game Of The Year! Red Sox Make It Eight Straight Wins By Walking Off The White Sox In 13 Innings After Trailing in the 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th

"Might be the craziest regular season game all year."

That text from a Yankee Fan coworker came in at some point during the wildness of the Red Sox / White Sox game Thursday night.

And he was not wrong.

On a night where America was ready to kick off the NFL Season with the Hall of Fame Game, the Red Sox and White Sox gave us a fucking baseball classic.

And in the end, because they just don't lose, the Red Sox won it in walk-off fashion in the 13th.

Hogdale is calling it the Game of the Decade, and maybe he's right.

Sox were down 4-0 early against the White Sox, who, by the way, are pretty freaking good.

They cut it to 5-2 and eventually tied it up, thanks to a guy no one in Boston had heard of before this Red Sox run, Anthony Seigler.

That lead didn't last long, as Justin Slaten paid tribute to football season starting by spiking a throw to first base a half inning later after the Sox tied it.

The Sox would still trail by 1 in the 9th before Wilyer Abreu untied it.

And then from there, it turned into a boxing match. The White Sox would land a punch by scoring in the top of the innings. Then the Red Sox would counterpunch in the bottom of the inning.

Of all the utterly shocking things about this Red Sox turnaround, the whole Comeback Kids thing is the hardest for me to explain. At one point in June, the 2026 Red Sox were 1-40 in games where they trailed by 2+ runs at any point in a game. They were 0-31 when trailing by 3+ runs.

Less than two months later, you expect them to win every night. Fucking wild.

Jaren Duran made a play that should not get lost in all the comeback talk, throwing out a runner in the 12th and keeping it a one-run game.

It was going to take a scoreless inning from someone to win this, and Bryan Bello delivered in the 13th.

Chad Tracy said Bello maybe had one more inning in him before the Sox had to go to a positional player.

Caleb Durbin - who has become the easiest guy ever to root for - walked it off in the 13th. Sox announcer Lou Merloni, who played for the Red Sox and hosted a radio show called Mut & Merloni for three years, credits Durbin's toughness of playing through a finger injury as being a key part of the turnaround for this team

How good was this win? You can hear Sox owner John Henry giving his own play-by-play on his wife's IG stories 😂😂😂

Sox trailed 4-zip in this one. Then 5-2. That 7-5. They trailed in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, before winning it in the 13th. They have now won 8 in a row, 17 of 20 and 31 of 36.

They made a bunch of physical and mental errors and still found a way to win, which is becoming their identity.

Football is going to have to wait, because the Red Sox have become the story of the summer in sports.

We went live for Episode 56 - Dirty Water - A Boston Sports Podcast right after the game. We wrapped up about 1:30 AM ET. I hope Hogdale still has a voice today.
