Hawaiian Congressional Candidate Knocked Out at Beach After Someone Asked Him to Turn His Music Down
Civil Beat – A Democratic congressional candidate running against incumbent U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda was arrested Saturday after a violent altercation at Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei.
Kirill Basin, 40, was charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, and his bail was set at $1 million.
According to Maui Police Department, the incident began when a 61-year-old man asked Basin to lower the volume of his music. Basin allegedly threatened the man by implying he had a firearm and would shoot the victim’s wife.
A bystander intervened, leading to a physical altercation during which Basin allegedly armed himself with a knife and threatened multiple people before throwing it into the ocean. The knife was later recovered by police.
Do you know how I know this democratic congressional candidate, Kirill Basin, is out of his god damn mind? Multiple reasons. But most importantly, it's the god damn lei.
Any non-Hawaiian who moves to Hawaii to embrace the whole... I don't even know what to call it... "the culture", for lack of a better term. When that guy poses for a picture with a lei around his neck and his eyes closed as if he's doing a whole "I'm at peace", "I'm one with the island" thing... that guy is out of his god damn mind. That's a man who is desperately trying to convince both the world and himself that he's a chill Hawaiian island guy. In reality, it could not be farther from the truth.
Local Candidates – I'm Kirill Basin. I moved to Maui during COVID. Lived in Hāna for a year, Pāʻia for two, and now I have a home in Waikapū. I have a son named Kozimir. Everything I do in public life is in service of the world he inherits.
That's a man who's running from something. That man is a ticking time bomb. Every day when he leaves home in his brightly colored Speedo, he's one negative interaction away from flying off the handle and getting his ass kicked by a real B.J. Penn ass island guy.
Then having to make the saddest walk of shame of all-time.

Somebody get this man back to his people in New York. Kirill Basin is a guy who needs to be in at least one screaming match on the subway per day to keep from losing his head completely. You can't do that in Hawaii. You've overstayed your welcome there, Kirill. You can barely go outside without pulling a weapon on some poor islander. This isn't even the first time something like that has happened this year.

Civil Beat – An armed man entered a Maui County government building Friday morning and brandished his gun during an argument with county workers, but police were not called for an hour and a half.
Kirill Basin, who had recently announced he planned to run for Congress, was arrested at around 12:30, miles away in Kīhei — where he lives — for Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree.
Police say Basin has been arrested for other incidents of assault and property damage since May.
Several people have taken out temporary restraining orders against him, including Maui County Council member Thomas Cook, who said he was worried about his personal safety and for his staff after Basin disrupted a meeting in May.
Cook said Basin “became aggressive and confrontational” and “threatened violence against the police” and a council ambassador.
Two days later, on May 29, reports circulated that Basin “brandished a weapon in a county office building in a confrontation with county employees.”
If he's not still in jail, I bet right now Kirill is sitting on a beach, meditating on the water, telling himself that he ocean fills him with Maluhia – a word for peace he learned this morning from his Hawaiian word of the day calendar. That's not you, Kirill. You're not an Ōhana guy. You were born in the Ukraine and raised in New York City. You're an "I'm walkin' here" guy. You should be fist fighting cab drivers in the lower east side. You should be running for office in Manhattan, and making insane political commercials where you challenge Mamdani to cage matches.
Stop wreaking havoc on the island, Kirill. Come home and live your truth.
