This 21-Year Old Flight Instructor Made a Highly Impressive Emergency Landing on Florida Highway

I have no problem with a 21-year old flight instructor. As long as the pilot has completed the necessary hours, they have just as much of a right to instruct me as anyone else. Honestly, at 21 years old, your vision and reflexes are probably better than some 60-year old who's been flying for decades. And when you're only 21 years old, your brain hasn't been clouded with years of "experience". If you're a flight instructor at 21-years old, you're yet to pick up any bad habits. Flying planes is probably the only thing you've done with your life. You're probably as sharp of a pilot as anyone.

But a WOMAN?!?!??!?!!?!?!? Please, honey. The only thing you should be instructing me on is how to properly grow my sourdough starter. What are you doing behind the wheel of a Cessna? It's nearly sorority season. Don't you have the cut-throat politics of who gets top billing in the Chi O welcome dance to worry about?

And scene. Sorry Emily. This is Barstool Sports. I'm contractually obligated to make at least 1 female pilot joke. But now we've got that out of the way, that was a highly impressive landing. It was an absurd landing. She really threaded the needle there. She went under the thing before her wheels even touched ground.

That's gotta be hard enough to do with a working plane, let alone a crash landing one. Like flying through the windmill in Diddy Kong Racing, but in real life.

I'm starting to think she just did that to show off. She seemed to be in full control of the aircraft. She couldn't have been more calm and collected on that emergency call. She clocked the burning oil smell, realized she wasn't going to make it to the airport, and did a tricky little stunt on I-10. Just to see if she could. And she nailed it. Swish.

That was one hell of an emergency landing, Emily Shelton. Good luck in all your future flying endeavors. If I'm ever getting my pilots license in Florida, I'd be honored to have you instruct me.
