Four Years To The Day That Their GM Said "It Was Liftoff From Here," The Orioles Have Traded Their Face Of The Franchise, Their Once-Upon-A-Time Savior, And Their Golden Boy Adley Rutschman To The Boston Red Sox
What an absolute gut punch for the entire fanbase for the Baltimore Orioles. Another disappointing season has turned into our worst nightmare. Adley Rutschman, our golden boy, our 1.1 pick, our 3-time All-Star, the key piece of the rebuild that was going to "liftoff from here" has been traded to the Boston Red Sox. Trading a guy who we thought would lead this team and city to multiple World Series titles to a division rival is massive cuck behavior. I truly can't believe a front office would bow down like this, roll over and let them pet their belly, it's embarrassing. The Orioles play has also been embarrassing, but this is at team that's 2.5 out and Adley has another year and a half left before hitting the market.
Maybe he turned down an extension, that's okay! You are still trying to win ballgames! You should want the good players on your team, the more the better! Good teams let guys walk all the time. Trading Adley for a haul of prospects is going to give this entire fanbase PTSD, none of us have the time or patience to wait around on more prospects. We were promised generational prospects years ago and now this is where we are. I'm done giving a shit about 2035 and beyond, this is a starved fanbase who wants to win now and I truly don't see how this move helps them win now and for whatever games they play next year.
A lot of folks point to the Samuel Basallo extension that the Orioles gave out last year, I get that...but one look at Basallo's season and it's easy to see that he most likely won't be catching 110+ games a year for this club. His bat is next level, he's Yordan Jr., but he's constantly beat up and nicked up, as is Adley during the last 2 years. You can easily convince me on why this is a good move for the long term success of the Baltimore Orioles, I know that option is out there, but as of right now I think this is a brutal move. A person who everyone liked in the clubhouse, the fan favorite, and you move him to the BOSTON RED SOX for prospects, I'd love for Mike Elias and company to look me in the eye and tell me how this helps the team in 2026.
It's been a miserable failure by this entire team, franchise and front office. Since they drafted Adley the Orioles have 0 playoff wins. Not just playoff series, playoff game wins. This was supposed to be the golden age of Orioles baseball with this core and it's been mismanaged into the ground. The lack of urgency in 2023 to improve the club, the lack of urgency to improve the club in 2024, both seasons ending in heartbreaking no-shows in the playoffs. This rebuild has been an udder failure no matter how you look at it. Mike Elias and this front office never built a full team up, they tried to take shortcuts, they wouldn't fully invest and now it's too late because we're watching the man who was supposed to lead it all walk out the fucking door and head to a rival. It's very clear and obvious that spreadsheets don't care about emotions or storylines.
Mike Elias preached to us that once Pete Alonso was signed that it was a "new era", pretty big crock of shit. It's a fucking embarrassment. From a team who won 101 games on the cusp of taking the step forward to a front office that rolled over for a division rival. Just a complete and utter abortion of a rebuild, what a shame. I understand why you wanted to move him, why you thought about it, but I absolutely hate everything it stands for.
Thanks for the good times, Adley. Sorry this front office failed you and the rest of the team in literally every area. I'm sure it'll work to for the Orioles since this does seem like a haul but right now this suck.
