The Boston Red Sox Just Ripped Off The Winningest Month In Franchise History And One Of The Best Julys in MLB History
The Boston Red Sox just had their most winning month in the history of the franchise.
The idea that I'd be opening a blog here with those words after the team's first three months is fucking ridiculous.
For all intents and purposes, the season was over in June. A disaster. Manager fired. Stars injured. Team in complete sell mode. 'Sell the team' chants raining down on Fenway.
Those started as early as April. Turn the page to 2027. Well, 2028 after a lockout.
That team. The team that was circling the drain. The team that fired their manager just 17 games into the season - they just rolled off an insane 21-4 July, goof for an .840 winning %. The previous team best was a 24-6 (.800) month in 1950.
In fact, no team in MLB history had had a month like the Sox just had.
Won 20+ games ✅
Had a 15+ game winning streak ✅
Had 10+ comeback wins ✅
Swept a 9+ game road trip ✅
Had a .900+ road win pct ✅
List of teams that have ever done that?
1. The 2026 Boston Red Sox
And that's it.
The Sox capped off July with a win over the loaded Dodgers Friday night - another comeback win. That put them in rare July company:
July Winning % MLB History
1. 2017 Dodgers - (20-3, .870) - lost in the World Series
2. 1941 Yankees - (25-4, .862) - won the World Series
3. 2026 Red Sox - (21-4,. 840) - ?????
Crazy.

One thing you can't say is they beat up on a bunch of bad teams. Since June 25, they're 12-0 against teams with a .500 record or better.
They've had great starting pitching. The bullpen has been elite. They've been clutch (10 comeback wins).
Despite the rankings of some of my very dumb coworkers, the Red Sox are all of a sudden one of the best teams in baseball.
The comeback wins stand out the most. This team was lifeless - one of the worst teams of my baseball lifetime. And then they just … weren't.

They created a new identity. Wins like this one against the Orioles just would not have happened early in the season. Interim manager Chad Tracy deserves a lot of credit for that - this team is never out of any game.
Reminder - this team was dead in the water. They had the FEWEST WINS IN THE AL in late June. A month later, they have sole possession of the second Wild Card spot in the AL and are closing in on the Yankees.
If you're looking for some detailed 'How did they do it?' I'm not going to be much help. The only Red Sox team close to this in my lifetime (I'm old) is the 1988 Morgan Magic Red Sox. That team won 12 consecutive games under new manager Joe Morgan, won 19 of his first 20 games, and set a Red Sox record with a 24-game home winning streak at Fenway Park. It was incredible.
This is better.
That July 15-game winning streak was the 24th longest in MLB History. The reality is, there's a very good chance we never see a month like this from an MLB team again. Like, ever.
In a down American League, the Red Sox are now a threat to get to the ALCS. They need their injured stars to come back. They need help at the trade deadline. But if you told me today they're part of MLB's Final Four in October, I'd believe you.
That's what a hard-to-describe, all-time, probably never see again in our lives month of baseball will do for you.
