Karl Ravech, Who Has Been Laid Off By ESPN, Is Still Calling Games For ESPN And Will Be A Part Of LLWS Coverage In August
Wait what? Couldn't believe this when I scrolled by it last night. Ravech being laid off last week was one of the more shocking things at the mothership. Ravech seems relatively well liked, he's been there forever and ESPN did a pretty shitty job of honoring a guy who spent forever with them. Dan Patrick, who's been very critical of his former employer on ESPN teed off on them.
Dave summed up pretty much how the common man feels as well.
To see him on the call last night was weird to say the least. Also is it almost more disrespectful to keep him on these games? It's not really like they are going out of their way to honor him or give him this big sendoff. It's almost like they know they are short staffed and need him to do them a solid so they have coverage. Very weird. Either fire him or not, this like half in half out shit of letting him play out his contract is bullshit.

It's also hilarious that his final event will be the LLWS. Now, I love the LLWS - I find it to be eventful, organic and the last gasp of amateurism- despite ESPN doing everything they can to ruin it. But I have to imagine Ravech doesn't love watching some 12 year old from Wyoming cry because he dropped a fly ball, and having to read off that the 3 hitter from Connecticut loves the money emoji, or watch all sorts of errors and chaos instead of big league ball. To think that after 33 years the last event Ravech calls will be the LLWS. Like when a famous actor has to go to a card show at the end of their career just to stay relevant. What a brutal way to go out.
