The Shohei Ohtani White Whale 1 Of 1 Dual Gold Logoman Has Been Pulled And Sold For Over $11 Million
That sound you hear is us card nerds sighing and realizing we didn't buy the Topps Chrome hobby box that held the card everyone was looking for, the dual auto from Shohei Ohtani with his 2 gold logo patches. This thing is a MONSTER, it had a bounty on it for a cool $10 million, yes $10 million for a single card of Shohei. The gold patches are pulled straight from his uniform in seasons he won an MVP, one from the 2024 season and one from 2025. And then we have the autos, those sweet autos. One written in English and one in Kanji, what a sweet looking card. It was only a matter of time before it finally showed up, and naturaly it was during the same week as the National in Chicago.
The card was found in a hobby box by a collector who got the box at his local shop in Florida, Boca Sports Cards. Truly a monster hit, maybe one of the biggest cards pulled in years. Collectors all over wanted to find this card, some lucky fan is counting his blessings, this is a life changing card.
The bounties for the card kept going up and up and up, it turned into a massive pissing contest before being purchased by Matthew Allen (AKA Shyne). Shyne works with Secure Collectibles, a big time investment firm focused on cards that also includes names like Kevin O’Leary and Paul Warshaw. This is the part of the collecting game that sucks, mega rich fools wanting in on the action and buying their way in, but you do have to recognize that no average Joe is buying a card for $11 million so I get it. Originally the firm placed a $6.5 million bounty on the card whenever it would eventually be pulled, but other bounties ended up reaching $10 million. Shyne and Secure put their nuts on the table and bought the redemption card for a cool $11 million, they wanted this card BAD.
I will say it was nice to see that a regular card fan pulled it and not one of these massive, cringy breakers. You see it all too much, Alex Rodriguez happens to open one pack on camera and it turns out to have a Cooper Flagg auto, shocker! This hobby box was bought by a random guy who just wanted to rip some packs, changed his life forever. But it's refreshing to see that it was in the hands of a mom and pop card shop instead of given out to some breaker with 40K followers. This does go to show you CAN hit the big hits, like this is the mother load of hits and he got it. Now he's $11 million richer and has plenty of money to buy another hobby box if he wants. It's believed to be the third highest card sale ever, can't wait to see what tops this sale.
