The NBA Needs To Steal This MLB Idea From The Home Run Derby To Save All-Star Saturday Night
Everybody knows NBA All-Star Saturday Night is dead. The Skills competition is a joke and the Spurs officially killed it with Wemby and CP3 trying to cheat the system to win in 2025.
The Dunk Contest has been dead for years. No good players want to compete in it and it's the one day a year people have pretended to care about a random G-leaguer, Mac McClung. This past year, the biggest name in it was Jaxson Hayes who did this to open the show in February.
The only saving grace is the 3-point contest, but it's gotten stale. The best guys generally do compete, but with all the sponsorship balls the scores are seeming more and more juiced.
Watching the HR Derby last night got me thinking, what if the NBA 3-point Contest you only got a few misses and then you're done? Like for example, if the number was set at five, what if each player got to shoot as many times as they wanted, untimed, until they missed five times. That would eliminate the crummy guys from trying and truly make it a most elite of the elite. I want to see Steph Curry vs. Damian Lillard vs. Klay Thompson in a who can make the most in a row. In an ideal situation, Steph is down by seven with one miss left and has to hit like eight in a row to win. That would be a moment!
We discussed that and much more on today's Wake Up Barstool! Check it out here:
