Rico Reviews: "Tuner" Is A Really Good Movie You Probably Never Heard Of
Apologies if Tuner is some sort of juggernaut, but I never heard of it, nor saw a commercial, a trailer, an article or a newspaper blog on it at all. (Apologies to Klemmer I just saw his list of best movies and he put it #3, but the original review must have escaped me). I got recommended this one by Feits who last recommended Kodachrome - which is LIGHTS OUT. Terrific movie. So I went back to the well to my pal and asked for another- to which he told me Tuner is "Good Will Hunting meets Ocean's 11. Those are two massively iconic movies but to his defense, the movie is a bit of a mesh of those two.
I give it 3 out of 4 stars and genuinely enjoyed it. Again, I had never heard a thing about it, it stars people I haven't seen in a single thing, and I was locked in the entire way. It follows the Good Will Hunting theme that Dustin Hoffman plays a game has passed him by piano tuner, and takes Leo Woodall's character under his wing as a protege where they seem to develop a father son ish relationship. Woodall quickly discovers via his ability to crack safes, despite a massive hearing issue, and off we go with Woodall taking a hard right onto a road we didn't expect him to go down.
I thought the characters were good, i thought the movie pays homage to some of the best parts of my favorite movie of all time in Good Will Hunting, and keeps you on your toes with the thriller aspect of Nick's secret. It was really good. Highly recommend.
