The Decision 2.0: LeBron's Agent (Rich Paul) Had The Sixers President (Bob Myers) On His Podcast To Formally Pitch LeBron On Why He Should Go To Philly

Back in the summer of 2010, I think we all remember what it was like when LeBron held the entire world hostage while we waited for his "Decision". LeBron had just lost to the Celtics (again) in the playoffs, and everyone knew the deal once the clock hit 0.0 in that series. His time as a Cav was over. Where was he going? That was the million dollar question. You could make the case that the Decision 1.0 was one of the more league-altering moments we've had in the modern era

Fast forward to 2026, and here we are again, only this time LeBron is 41 years old. After leaving the sinking ship that is the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this summer, it was as if we teleported back into time as we now had The Decision 2.0 on our hands. Despite his age I think it's fair to say that LeBron showed last year that he definitely still has some gas left in the tank and can still be a productive NBA player in the right role, so once the Shams bomb dropped that LeBron would be taking his talents elsewhere, the guessing game began.

Would he head up to the Bay and team up with Curry? A second return to the Cavs? Maybe a reunion with Pat Riley in South Beach?

The beauty of living in 2026, is that we live in a completely different media and NBA landscape compared to when we were dealing with this situation back in 2010. Sure, fans can make their own pitch

but what truly matters is the opinions and decisions from those actually involved. We now live in a world where LeBron's agent (Rich Paul) can bring in the President of a LeBron suitor (Bob Myers and PHI) to openly pitch their case as to why LeBron should reward them with his basketball services

I mean, that's pretty fucking crazy! You combine this with the whiteboard stuff, and it's pretty clear that Rich Paul desperately wants LeBron to go to Philly. When can you ever remember someone that high up in a front office going on a podcast and making such a public pitch to a player? Welcome to life in 2026.

And you know what? I don't hate this idea. In fact, every potential suitor should go on this show and make their case. That's the perfect way to evolve The Decision. Get Anthony Edwards on the set to pitch joining the Timberwolves. Get Donovan Mitchell on there to pitch the Cavs and Giannis to make the case for Miami. Let's see Steph or Draymond's pitch. Why not? That at least would make this whole thing a bit more entertaining. There's no rush for LeBron to make his decision, so let's line everyone up Shark Tank style and have them make their case. You can't tell me you wouldn't watch the shit out of that.

Given the fact that these types of conversations usually only happen behind closed doors, I appreciate the inside look. I have little doubt what Bob Myers says in that clip is all that different from a real free agent meeting. Did he do the best job selling the Sixers? I guess that depends on what you prefer to happen.

Do they present the best opportunity to win? Who's to say. Their bench still has issues, we have no idea how all those pieces now fit together, and it's a team that doesn't exactly have a history of health or long playoff runs. I don't think you can definitively say they offer a better chance at a title than say, returning to the Cavs, although they have their own questions as well.

But one thing is certain. This is the new normal. This is media in 2026. If it works, you bet your ass we're going to see more and more execs go on podcasts and openly pitch their case to potential free agents, which honestly is something I wouldn't hate. As fans, we all want an inside look into that process and what those meetings entail. Is it weird that it's coming on the podcast of the high-powered agent whose client is the topic of discussion and the one making the pitch is a team he definitely wants his client to go to? Sure. But don't let the details get in the way of the fun.
