An Anonymous NBA "Analytics Guy" Declaring That Jaylen Brown Would Only Be The 7th Best Player On A Team Is Easily One Of The Worst Takes Of All Time

We've reached the point of the Jaylen Brown Drama where things are truly becoming insufferable. This is the problem with trade rumors/drama etc. When you're in the thick of it, it's absolute hell from all angles. One minute, we have Stephen A still trying to beef with Jaylen Brown. Then, we get Shams coming on TV 10,000 times just regurgitating the same vague comments that don't really say anything, yet are reported as fact. Then we have a whole lot of "I think" comments from reporters yet nobody is putting them out as official reports. Then you have Brian Windhorst going on TV and saying shit like this

Which is insane given the fact that, ya know, we just saw the Celtics be competitive with a gap year roster and no Jayson Tatum for 90% of the year? Yes, they choked in horrific fashion in the first round, but to say that was solely on Jaylen Brown is a conclusion you would only form if you have this weird stance towards him. He wasn't good enough, Derrick White was horrendous, the young guys never really showed up, the frontcourt got destroyed by Embiid, and Joe Mazzulla had a horrific series. THAT is why they choked the 3-1 lead.

It almost felt as if all the ESPN guys were getting Stephen A's back or something given the recent drama between him and Jaylen earlier in the week.

It's odd, some ESPN reporters basically say that the Celtics will never win, and nobody wants Jaylen, but then non-ESPN reporters will talk about how there are several teams interested and talking with Brad Stevens. Who knows what to believe at this point, because how could two polar opposite situations be happening at the same time? Who is full of shit?

And if we needed even more evidence that things are truly off the tracks when it comes to Jaylen Brown, it's hard to argue you'll find a better case of it than what Bobby Marks (another ESPN guy) threw out there today

People will see/hear stuff like this, and then get mad at Jaylen for when he says he feels disrespected. I mean what the fuck are we doing? Is this perhaps the worst basketball take in the history of basketball takes? You don't have to be a Jaylen Brown fan. You can think he's not worth his deal. That's fine. But to suggest he would be the 7th best player on a team?!?!

Yes, a player who just averaged 29 a game with a roster that Brad Stevens essentially admitted was a transition year roster, who was 6th in MVP voting this season while making 2nd team All NBA, a player who has an ECF MVP, NBA Finals MVP and over 13K points, would be the 7th best player on a team. If I root for the team that employs that "analytics" guy, I'd be terrified because that person should absolutely not be working in the NBA in any capacity.

I am not someone who thinks advanced analytics are bad or meaningless or any of that stuff. There's obviously value in all information, if used correctly. I am, however, someone who thinks if your analytics are telling you Jaylen Brown would be the 7th best player on an NBA team, then perhaps we've officially left planet earth when it comes to this data. If anything, shit like this does more harm than good to the analytics crowd and Spreadsheets FC. Again, you can hate Jaylen Brown, you can want him off the Celtics, that's fine. Shit like this? It's pathetic.

This is part of why being in trade rumors is the worst. You get shit like this. I can't help but think there was a reason Bobby Marks decided to put that out into the universe, and it's not an accident. Between how Windy was talking and now that quote that Marks knows will go viral, it does feel like something fishy is going on.

What I think we can say is that as the days go by, it does "feel" less and less likely that Jaylen Brown will be a Celtic moving forward, which just made me puke while I typed this sentence. Where he goes or what the trade ends up being is anyone's guess, and while I personally would very much not like that to happen, at the end of the day, I have to remember Rule #1.

Trust Brad Stevens.

But all this anonymous analytics guy bullshit? That guy can go to hell.
