Lil Skies, A Rapper Who Has Over 8 Billion Streams On Spotify, Said He Had To Apply At Dollar General Because People Weren't Booking Him For Shows
Listen, I know 99.9% of you clicking this have no idea who "Lil Skies" is. I only know because in the late 2010's era of SoundCloud, he was as big as it got. That era of Lil "insert name here" was a wild one. You had Lil Pump, Lil Skies, Lil Peep, Lil Yachty, Lil Nas X, Lil Tjay, Lil Tecca, Lil Mosey, Lil Bibby, and probably a zillion other ones that somehow were taking over the charts with SoundCloud rap.
Anyway, that doesn't take away from the fact this clip is absolutely absurd. I don't know how much 8 billion streams and 4 platinum songs gets you but my best guess is that it's easily in the millions and millions of dollars. If you believe AI slop, it says an industry standard for that amount would be around 30 million dollars before any cuts, agent and label fees, splitting it off to producers, yada yada.
In one of those songs he rapped he could never get a job because he's so dedicated:
Fast forward 8 years later and turns out money doesn't really last forever and you've got Dollar General on line 1 for a cashier job. I always find shit like this incredibly fascinating, like those 30 for 30's on going broke as an athlete who had millions of dollars before the cars, houses, and shoddy agents.
Things may be looking up for Lil Skies though because he just performed at Summer Smash in Chicago, where Eddie was also watching Playboy Carti in what is maybe the most shocking sentence ever:

Good luck out there.
