A Massachusetts High School Lacrosse Team Was Forced To Forfeit A State Semifinal Game Because A Group Of Seniors Smoked Cigars After Graduation

High school sports are the backbone of America. The ability for kids to go out there and compete for the communities that raised them. For the town they grew up in. For the parents, for the teachers, for all the younger kids in the town who look up to them. Without high school athletics, our nation would mean nothing. It might sound a little ridiculous, but it's true. There is something special about having pride in the community you grew up in.

The only bad part about high school athletics is the adults. Sometimes it's a shitty parent who is trashed at games and losing it on refs. Sometimes it's a coach who decides to be an asshole. Most of the time, it's some sort of administrator who decides to make everything about themselves because they were a loser growing up. And that's exactly what happened with this Massachusetts lacrosse team who just saw their season end due to a group of adults punishing a bunch of kids for smoking a cigar after graduation.

The Ipswich boys lacrosse team was set to play in the MIAA Division 4 state semifinal game against Cohasset on Tuesday night. They had just won their previous 3 games by a combined 39 goals. The seniors had graduation between the quarterfinals and semifinals, and they did what pretty much every single group of guys who graduate high school do. They grabbed a pack of cigars and got a sick group photo together. It's as mundane as it gets. A group of 18-year-old kids who have graduated high school pictured with cigars in their mouth. It's happened millions upon millions of times before.

But here's where adults have to step into the mix and make everything about themselves. Because the administrators took this ridiculously harmless photo, and they decided to ruin Ipswich's entire season over it.

And apparently the decision came from within the school. Talk about an all-time joke. And talk about an all-time scumbag move by the school to suspend these players just a few hours before the game. This is clearly an administration that couldn't possibly give less of a shit about their students. A school that saw a group of seniors who just gave the past 12 years to the district, and they rip away the biggest game of their lives from them like it was nothing.

It's disgusting. There's no other way to put it. Everybody involved with this decision should be ashamed of themselves, because they are truly awful people. You want to say that rules are rules? Yeah sure I get it. But sometimes common sense just has to prevail here. Sometimes you can't be the biggest coward on the planet, and just go strictly by the rules on everything.

Somebody needed to step up here. Somebody needed to step up and say these kids don't deserve to go out like this. Were they going to beat Cohasset? Who knows. This is a team that saw their season come to an end at the hands of Cohasset just a couple years ago in 2024. But that's the point. Now these kids will never know what could have been. A massive moment in all of their lives, and it was stripped away from them because there are a bunch of cowards running the show in Massachusetts. I'd hope these dickheads wouldn't be able to sleep at night over what they did, but you know for a fact that they don't care. The simply do not care about these kids.

I don't know if there's anything that can be done here. Frankly, I wouldn't accept the result if I were Cohasset. I'd say we're not taking the win unless the game gets rescheduled. You can't head into a state championship like that feeling good about yourself. The whole thing is a sham at this point. So not only does this decision have an impact on Ipswich, but it ruins it for everybody. But again, the people in charge don't care. Because they are in charge and you're not. Disgusting.
