It Has Been 163 Days Since Patrick Mahomes Tore His ACL and He Is Already Back on the Field for the Chiefs
If you don't think this guy is starting on September 14, 2026, on Monday Night Football against the Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium, you are just flat-out dumb. On December 14, 2025, it was a sunny day out in Kansas City, and the Chiefs were playing the Chargers to keep their postseason hopes alive, and that is when the day got very dark. Three-time Super Bowl champ, two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL on the final drive of the game as the Chiefs lost to the Chargers. This day fucking sucked. The whole season was a shit show, and everyone realized the pieces just were not connecting and as a result the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time in 11 years.
Look, I get everyone fucking hates the Chiefs because of the success they have had in the past 8 years with Mahomes, but you gotta admit, without Mahomes in the playoffs, it just felt like something was missing (also, if Josh Allen can't get it done when Mahomes isn't in the playoffs, I don't know when he ever will get it done). But the thing with Mahomes is, just like me, he doesn't stop. Mahomes has had so many different injuries that, when they would happen to any other NFL player, they would be sidelined for weeks or months. But for Mahomes? It seemed like he would cut the time in half.

Mahomes suffered a right knee dislocation, and many QBs will be out anywhere from 3–6 weeks. Mahomes? Back in 2. The guy is a maniac when it comes to wanting to be back on the field as fast as he can. And that's the thing — anytime he is back, it never feels like it was rushed unless it is in the playoffs, and everyone just feels fine watching him. With 274 days in between the ACL tear and the season opener against the Broncos, it was never a question of if Mahomes was going to play that game or not, but rather when he would be fully cleared in the offseason. Many people not from Kansas City think this is impossible, but when it comes to Patrick Mahomes, as cheesy as it sounds, nothing is impossible.
