This Woman in Nebraska Was Shot By a Dog. Imagine Being Shot By a Dog.

Dexerto – A woman in Nebraska was hospitalized after a dog in a nearby car accidentally fired a shotgun shell into her arm.

On Saturday May 22, officers from the Scottsbluff Police Department were called to the Short Stop gas station in Scotsbluff, Nebraska, following reports of someone being shot with a BB gun.

However, before they arrived, they received information that it was in fact a real shotgun that had been used in the incident. Officers arrived to find a truck with a camper van attached. The passenger side door to the vehicle had sustained damage similar to that of a shotgun blast.

Officer investigations found that the owner of the truck had parked up in order to purchase goods from the convenience store. The truck’s passenger was stood by the front passenger door, and there was a dog in the back, along with a shotgun.

The dog then moved from one side of the truck to the other and, in that movement, accidentally pulled the trigger on the shotgun which had a live shell in the chamber, causing it to fire through the door.

Unfortunately, at the time of the weapon firing, a passerby was waiting at a red light with her arm out of the window. One of the shotgun’s pellets landed in her upper arm, requiring her to be taken to the neighbouring Regional West Medical Center for treatment, though her injury was reportedly not life-threatening.

Although carrying a loaded gun in the car is technically illegal in Nebraska, it's good to know that should I ever mistakenly pull trig and put a bullet in the arm of a woman at a red light, there's a chance the state will consider my, "It wasn't me. It was my dog" plea.

Sorry I'm not trying to take away from this dog's accomplishment. I'm sure he's a sharpshooter. I assume there were cameras at that gas station. I can't imagine the "dog shoots woman" story makes it this far unless there's really no other plausible explanation. But in a different situation, maybe a "Sorry officer, I've got no clue how it happened. It must have been Sparky" defense actually has some legs.

So... bad dog. Shooting a woman with a shotgun is for sure bad dog behavior. But also... kind of impressive, buddy. Not many dogs can say they've handled a firearm, and successfully shot a human.

Putting myself in the shoes of the woman who was shot, I'm trying to decide if I'd be more or less pissed to learn it was a dog who shot me. You're going to be pretty pissed either way. But does hearing the bullet came from the paws of a Labrador soften the blow a bit? Or does the improbability of the whole thing, combined with the irresponsibleness of the owner who left his loaded gun + dog in the same confined space just add to your anger?

I suppose it depends on the dog's demeanor. Was the dog sorry? Was he an adorable golden retriever named Waffles who upon learning that he shot you, ran up and tried to lick your wounds to apologize? In that case, I'm sure I'd forgive him. But if it was some big, mean Doberman with a name like Hunter who looks like he probably shot you for racist reasons, I might be less understanding.

All I know is that is that somebody is getting sued. The dog or the owner. Whoever makes the most money. If the dog that shot me if that conniving bitch Bunny who's tricked his dumbass owners into thinking he knows English by stomping on buttons in exchange for attention...

I'm taking Bunny the dog for all the TikTok money he's worth. Those would be the types idiot owners to leave their dog in the backseat with a loaded weapon. If Bunny is smart enough to single out the "ouch" button when she's got a thorn in her paw, good luck convincing the courts she doesn't know how to pull a trigger on purpose.
