Hot Start: Garrick Higgo Began The PGA Championship With A 2-Stroke Penalty Because He Was Somehow Late For His Tee Time

How do you show up late to a tee time? I'm not even talking about a major and you're Garrick Higgo, I'm talking about any golf tournament. Let's not forget

I don't know if it's just because I'm an early to show up person by nature, I just don't understand how you're late. It's not like Higgo overslept either. He was close to the tee box:

[Source] - The PGA rules committee said that Higgo was on the practice putting green but “not within the area defined as the starting point at his starting time.”

The area for the first and 10th tees, according to the rules sheet, is by the rope, gallery stakes and bike fencing. Higgo needed to be at the first tee no more than five minutes ahead of his tee time, and video showed him arriving as his fellow playing competitor was getting set to play.

You gotta set an alarm, have someone on your team there let you know you need to be at the tee box. Again, you have plenty of time and the dude was sprinting to the tee as his group was getting ready to hit. We all have played at least one round with that guy. That guy sucks. They sit in the group text and tell you they'll be there, thinking they can show up 2 minutes before the tee time, check in, get beer and be ready. Or they'll talk themselves into having enough time after leaving work or a kids game or something. Just show up early, it's not hard to do.

But this is the PGA Championship and you're Garrick Higgo. You can't afford a two-stroke penalty before you even tee off. You could be sitting at -2 while making the turn and instead you're at even going to the back nine, which for sure the harder side here. Brutal start, but you only got yourself to blame in this scenario.
