Fashion Brand Retrofete Removes Sale Price From A Dress On Their Website After Taylor Swift Was Photographed Wearing It, Typical Money Sucking Capitalist Behavior
I'm so riled up about this that I'm writing a blog about it. That's how you know I mean business, when I come to you; the humble, kind, loving readers of Barstool Sports dot com. Exposing dirty sales tactics by "big" fashion brands and calling out one of the most blatant price gouging displays I've ever seen? What a Wednesday!
Now, for the uninformed, Retrofete is an overpriced fashion brand that AGGRESSIVELY targets people via Instagram/Tiktok, but also has made its way into every relevant fashion retailer we have. You'll see influencers on red carpets or in Miami wearing it but rarely do you see a true blue celebrity rocking their looks. I can speak from experience - I wore a Retrofete outfit to the Barstool Awards:
While I did look extremely hot, this outfit set me back 770 dollars. $375 for the (very flimsy, thin) skirt, and $395 for the top. At the time I justified it as a special night, blah blah blah, who knows - I knew it was overpriced then, and I knew the quality didn't make sense and I ultimately got hosed. Oh well!
Having this knowledge, seeing Taylor Swift step out in a Retrofete dress for Lena Dunham's birthday dinner at Via Carota, I thought to myself - "cute dress, but I bet it was an arm and a leg for no reason. Hopefully she just borrowed it for the night." As all the fashion Swifties do, the dress was uncovered immediately - and what do you know? It was ON SALE!
That is, until some braindead fucking IDIOT at Retrofete decided to take it OFF sale the second Taylor Swift was seen wearing it. Did they think we weren't going to notice???
I understand that business is business. When one of the most famous women in the world wears one of your outfits, you want to put that shit back up on the website ASAP. The problem here, is that Retrofete didn't take the necessary steps to "put the dress back on the market" at full price (a whopping $398) after an unprecedented amount of people already saw it was last season, 50% off, basically a fire sale. That's just bad, STUPID e-commerce management.
The moral of the story here, is if you're going to price gauge your customers because of Taylor Swift, at least have a little respect about it. What I would've done is labeled it immediately as sold out last night once the paparazzi pics hit the timeline (which would've made sense - anything Taylor wears, as soon as its identified, is sold out within minutes.) Then they I would have re-released it, full price and a marketing push that it was "back in stock!" It's that simple. Instead, I've lost respect for another "trendy" overpriced brand that doesn't have the kind of clout or long standing respect in the Fashion-sphere to treat their customers like that. SAD!
