80 Year-Old Jim Palmer Kept His Promise And Ate His First Ever Chicken Wing Live In The Broadcast Booth Because Adley Rutschman Hit A Grand Slam

The major story of the Orioles 2025 season wasn't disappointing player performances and injuries, it was that Jim Palmer admitted he had never had a chicken wing before. 80 years on this earth and he had never indulged in the glorious activity of wing eating. Boneless, bone in, nothing. I blogged about it here, of course you remember that.

So once the convo got going, he announced that if the Orioles hit a grand slam while he was calling the game, he'd eat a chicken wing. The guy has done it all, one of the best pitchers in the history of baseball but was missing out on a juicy chicken wing.Fast forward to this afternoon and not only did the Orioles hit one grand slam....they hit two.

One off the bat of Adley Rutschman and the other off the bat of Jeremiah Jackson, with Jim Palmer in the booth. So that means chicken wings for EVERYONE! What a call by Kevin Brown on Jeremiah's grand slam too, "TIMES TO FACE THE WINGS OF DEATH!". Palmer is a man of his word so the O's PR team found some wings and brought them up to Cakes for him to eat.

Very rarely do you get to see someone indulge in their first ever chicken wing, we've been eating them for decades now. Jim was too busy winning Cy Young awards and World Series rings, didn't have time to eat a wing. But now he does, he chomped right down on that bad boy. Too much grease for his liking, way too much skin too. That was his original complaint, the skin.

Regardless of how much skin was on the wing, he paid his debt and we love to see that. 80 years-old and just had his first wing, wait till he figures out he can get old bay on them and dunk em into ranch. So the man who never gave up a grand slam, had to break an 80 year run of not eating chicken wings thanks to a grand slam, poetic. Should have had to eat two wings since the O's hit two granny's with him in the booth, but we'll settle for one now. He's now living in a post-wing life, colors are brighter, sounds are louder, wings taste better. Good for Palmer, thanks for keeping your word as well!
