This Fabulous Cal State Northridge Men's Volleyball Player Is Lighting The World On Fire With His Flamboyant Celebrations
Out Sports – Jordan Lucas has been celebrating success during his volleyball matches since he was 15.
Those celebrations have garnered the gay college athlete attention and admiration throughout his volleyball career. As he’s built a top-notch reputation for himself with his play, he’s also made a name for himself with his now-patented flamboyant hair-flips and air kisses that stand out in the sport.
What a stud. Athletically speaking. Jordan Lucas, the Cal State Northridge volleyball player highlighted in that video, can spike balls with the straightest of them.
NSN – Jordan ranks third at Cal State Northridge in points (146), second in kills (132), sixth in aces (14) and sixth in digs (62).
But boy oh boy does he piss off people who don't have shit else in their life to be pissed off about. I won't be posting any Twitter replies here, but as you can imagine, the takes are flying. The sanctity of men's college volleyball is in gayve danger. But as a person who's long defended excessive celebrations in sports, and has always taken the, "If you don't like them doing it, then stop them from scoring" approach, I'd be a flaming hypocrite to give anything other than my full-throated support of Jordan Lucas' over the top antics.
I'm not sure if Jordan Lucas' has ever been punched in the mouth by an opponent the way UC Irvine volleyball commentator Charlie Brande suggested.
Not everybody has loved Lucas' flair, with UC Irvine volleyball commentator Charlie Brande criticizing Lucas during a recent match.
"I’m amazed Jordan Lucas hasn’t been popped by somebody,” Brande said. “The antics he’s making under the net, it’s very distasteful.”
I'm not sure what the straight version of his celebrations would be. Maybe some aggressive humping. Maybe the Sam Cassell big balls celebration.
Giphy Images.Or maybe the player pulls out his hog and swings it around his head like a lasso. Whatever it is, celebrations of all sexual orientations are bound to raise some eyebrows when they're THAT in-your-face. Not everyone is going to take kindly to them. Just ask Danny Kannel about this 12U baseball team.
But I'd imagine Jordan has heard all the trash talk in the world by now. And he certainly sure strikes me as a guy who can take it. Forgive me for stereotyping here, but a confident gay man is the last person you want to get in a battle of words with. I bet he's got the best arsenal of comebacks. I bet he can pinpoint your #1 insecurity from the other side of the gym, and cut you deep with nothing more than a look.
And if anybody can find footage of Jordan Lucas playing high school volleyball, I'd love to see him play before he "toned down" his celebrations.
Out Sports – They were a lot more animated when I was younger,” Lucas told Outsports of the evolution of his celebrations. “When I was playing club volleyball, a lot of people admired it and thought it was different in the sport.
“It used to be a full wrap-around clap when I was 14 or 15.”
His celebrations have toned down a bit over the years as he’s gotten older and entered college.
I can appreciate any player in any sport who bucks a trend. Anybody with a unique personality. You don't see many Jordan Lucases out there. I would hazard a guess that men's volleyball is an easier sport to be openly gay in than most, but my god how awesome it would be if the NBA had a Jordan Lucas?

The NBA needs some who could dunk on LeBron, give him a Dikembe Mutombo finger wag (but sassy), and gleefully skip back down the court. Basically the Dave Chappelle "Prince Was a Baller" sketch.
Anyways, Jordan Lucas' Cal State Northridge team went on to lose that game to UC Irvine in straight sets. No pun intended. But Jordan got one a hell of a highlight tape out of it.
