18-Year Old Australian Sprinter Gout Gout Just SMASHED Usain Bolt's Longstanding U20, 200M World Record

I love a guy with the same first and last name. We have Gob Gob. Bol Bol. Back in the mid-2000's, the Oklahoma Sooners had a big man named Longar Longar. I still think about that guy, because my brothers and I had a bit that his real passion was Chinese Checkers. Not sure where that came from, but it really cracked us up at the time.

In the world of running really fast over short distances, Gout Gout is next up. If anybody is going to break the great Usain Bolt's 100m & 200m world records some day, it's likely to be Gout². The man kid was running 100m in 10 seconds at 16-years old.

Gout Gout is now 18 years old, and he just broke Usain Bolt's U20 World Record in the 200m with a time of 19.67. Usain Bolt's top time in the 200m as a junior was 19.93. A record that had stood since 2004. When you compare their best 200m times at age 18 or younger, they're close to neck and neck, but Gout Gout has a slight advantage (source: Olympics.com).

However, it took Usain Bolt until he was 22 years old before he clocked a 200m time better than what Gout Gout just did at 18.

And to address the elephant in the room… the question that is on the top of everyone's mind… the answer is sadly, no. As awesome as it would be, Gout Gout does not have a thick Australian accent.

He's so damn fast his hairline is still trying to catch up. That's how you know he's great. Same thing happened to Bolt.

To further compare the two, Usain Bolt currently holds the real world record in the 100m (9.58 sec) and 200m (19.19 sec). He set both those records at 22 years old. So if they follow a similar trajectory, Gout Gout has a few years to get that time up. He'll be 20 years old at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. He'll be 24 when the Summer Olympics come to his home country of Australia in 2032.

It's about time somebody gave Usain Bolt a run for his money. Gout Gout may finally be the one to do it.
