SNL Cast Member Chloe Fineman Is Under Fire For Admitting She Pantsed A Little Boy
“I was fired as a camp counselor,” Fineman says in the video, explaining that she was 16 at the time. “I pantsed a boy. He would lift my shirt all the time. It was a different time. He would be like, ‘Hey, could I have a hug?’ And then I’d go to hug him and he’d lift my shirt, like a dick. And then I was like, ‘I’m going to get back at you.’ And so we were on a hike and I was like, ‘Hey, Ollie, go look over there. It’s a hawk.’ He looked and then I yanked his pants down, and then I was fired.”
However, the Vanity Fair video was edited and removed Fineman mentioning that the boy was 6 and his “little ding-a-ling was out.” The original video also showed Padilla telling Fineman, “Oh, honey, I think you’re on a list somewhere.”
“He wasn’t wearing underpants, and then a giant school bus drove by,” Fineman says in the original video, but not in the new version. There were also shots of the “SNL” cast members gasping and covering their faces that were removed from the original. Many people on social media were shocked at Fineman’s story and later pointed out that the Vanity Fair video had been edited to make it less shocking.
There are two levels to this.
"I was fired as a camp counselor because I pulled down a little boys pants and exposed his naked body". Not to reduce it down too much, but that's what we're looking at here. Admitting that to anyone is dumb. Admitting it to all your coworkers during a Vanity Fair piece is certifiably insnae. It's one of those things that might have felt innocent in retrospect but how does someone who has been in the media space this long not realize how that is gonna come off?
The second level is Vanity Fair's role. Like the article mentioned, they they cut and screwed the edit after it came out (gotta think that someone from Fineman's team made a inquiry there). There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that throws gasoline on a fire like trying to censor a clip after it's already out there. Bad, bad business right there .
I don' t think anything will come of this but it is an annoying distraction as SNL seems to be finding a bit more of a groove lately. Ashley Padilla has been one of their best hires in years and the recent guests have been crushing.
