I Miss When Video Games Were Fun And Not Rocket Science

I've been trying to come up with those exact words for like, 10 years now. It's not a hot take or anything, but ever since the post-PS2 days, I think video games have simply gotten too hard. Growing up, you would play video games for fun, to relieve stress, to relax. Now you pick up the sticks and you're doing math and solving algorithms and pundit squares just to play a game of virtual hockey. Ever play someone in Madden who takes it extremely seriously? They are dissecting the atom with the way they are changing coverages and protections pre-snap. Bro, you aren't literally an NFL head coach, get the fuck out of my face with this shit. Just choose the singleback formation, run a slant, and hope it works out like the rest of us. You don't need to be tapping every button like you're working at fucking NASA. It's beyond frustrating.

I played hours upon hours upon hours upon hours upon hours of the NHL and Madden games on PS2. It was simply just fun. You made a franchise and created yourself in the game and had fun drafting players, making trades, etc.

Whenever we play Madden in the office now it just feels so different from what the original idea of video games was. They just don't have that certain je ne sais quoi to me anymore. Maybe I'm officially just one of those folks who yearns "for the good old days". Or maybe they just aren't what they used to be, or possibly a combo of both. I don't know. I have been considering just buying a PS2 again and all the old games I grew up on and rejecting the present. Be an old man yelling at the clouds and living in the woods like the guy in Train Dreams. I think he had it right.

PS: I loved this part of the video when he goes for the Chel goal but since you can't see the right side he just passed it to nobody. Great memories.

PS: Don't even get me started on the Call of Duty type of games. Jesus Christ. Not even worth trying anymore.
