Chick-fil-A Is Offering Free Ice Cream To Families Who Give Up Their Cellphones Before They Sit Down To Eat

Call me old-fashioned, but I fucking love this.

There are conflicting reports about the number of Chick-fil-A's in America that are offering this deal. Some reports say it's only one establishment, some say it's select locations. All I know is that this initiative is something we all need to get behind as a society.

Of course, I'm saying this as someone who works in social media and is constantly on my phone. My screen time is upwards of eight hours a day, and it has been for years. Hell, I found this news while I was scrolling on my phone for crying out loud. So I get that it's somewhat hypocritical for me to be an advocate for this.

HOWEVER, no matter how much time I spend on my phone, there is still something incredibly sacred about family dinner. Or lunch, for that matter. I don't care if it's at home, at Chick-fil-A, or on fucking Mars. If we're sitting down and eating as a family, nobody is bringing any distractions to the table. That's quality time that you don't get back, and I don't think people value it anywhere near as much as we used to.

I remember times where I'd be at my grandparents' house and they'd just let the house phone ring and ring and ring whenever someone called as we were at the dinner table. "If it's so important, they'll leave a message," my grandparents would say. Now you go out to eat and all these kids have an iPhone or a tablet jammed in their face just so they shut the fuck up.

Hopefully this type of idea spreads to other dine-in places across the country. But don't worry, if you think this concept is the stupidest thing imaginable, the Cream Team here at Barstool will still allow you to use your phones as you please.

I think I'm gonna get some ice cream in the office right now, actually. But the next time I get it at Chick-fil-A, it will be after successfully completing this no-phones challenge. Hats off to you, Chick-fil-A. Brilliant idea.
