Stephen A Smith Going On TV And Attempting To Create A Beef With Derrick White For "Unfollowing" Him On Social Media Is About As Sad As It Gets
Sam Hodde. Getty Images. One of the positives of the NBA's new TV media deal is the fact that it introduced "actual" basketball coverage back into our lives with the addition of Amazon and the NBA on NBC. For years, we were told that fans didn't care about actually learning things or hearing real discussion about the sport compared to extremely contrived hot takes, and it took about 2.2 seconds of Amazon/NBC's content to prove otherwise. Aside from giving fans some real basketball content to watch, it also bullied ESPN into finally doing more of the same, which is certainly a welcomed change
But sadly, this isn't the case for everyone at ESPN. For some, it's the same old schtick. By some, I of course mean Stephen A Smith. We all know about his weird beef with LeBron that he has tried to keep alive for over a year, we just saw him try and create a beef with Josh Hart
and if that wasn't cringeworthy enough, we've now entered an even more embarrassing level by going on TV today and trying to I dunno, start another beef with Derrick White of all people because he "unfollowed" him????
I'm sorry, how exactly is this "BREAKING NEWS"? Dear lord, what happened to shame? The fact that this is even a topic, even if it only came up for a few seconds, is beyond sad. Not only that, doing the whole "I don't care" act while you're crying about it on national television is pretty much the exact opposite. You very much do care! If you didn't care, you wouldn't have even brought it up! You would have noticed it and gone about your day!

Also, what's the end goal here? Derrick White is probably the least problematic player in the entire league. Is the goal here to try and create a beef with another player so you can continue to make things about you?
WHO GIVES A SHIT WHO FOLLOWS OR UNFOLLOWS PEOPLE
Giphy Images.Stuff like this is why Amazon/NBC etc are very much needed when it comes to discussing the NBA. Can you imagine Blake Griffin going on his show and saying something like this? For a second, I almost thought I was getting JMac'd and that clip was A.I. or something, because I was certain there was no way it was actually real. Honestly, shoutout Derrick White for having this type of motion? Who knew.
Sadly, while players like LeBron and Josh Hart will feed into this bit and give Stephen A what he wants, there's a 0.0% chance Derrick White engages in this. He'll probably say something like he doesn't run his account or had no idea, and while that's almost always a lie when athletes say that shit, with Derrick White I'd believe it. Again, he's the least problematic player in the NBA. The very thing he actively avoids is being the center of attention of anything. It's just such a random and sad attempt to create a beef that you choose DERRICK WHITE of all players.
Now I will acknowledge that Stephen A has been pushing both the Jaylen Brown MVP agenda and has been pretty vocal about what a problem the Celtics are turning into, but all of that support goes out the window for me the second you try and start random shit with Derrick White over him unfollowing you. Grow up and leave him alone.
