Jaylen Brown Wasted No Time Talking His Shit Following The Celtics Securing Yet Another 50+ Win Season

Once the Celtics secured their big road win over the Charlotte Hornets, a team that has had the 2nd best record in the entire NBA over the last 31 games (23-8), it meant a few things.

First, they punched their ticket to the playoffs for the 12th straight season, which just so happens to be the longest active streak in the NBA

I'd just like to take a moment and shout out Isaiah Thomas, the man who was responsible for starting this streak. Back in that 2014-15 season, there was talk if the Celts should make a push for the playoffs or go the other way and try and get into the Lottery for the second consecutive season. As we know, they traded for Isaiah at the deadline and went on a great run to finish 40-42 (after winning 25 games the year before), and made the playoffs. Those early career playoff reps for playings like Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart etc were valuable, and it really jump-started the entire Celtics rebuild.

Now 12 years later, here we are again. Not just another playoff appearance season, but yet another 50+ win season. You may not think that's a big deal, but it is now the 5th straight season the Celts have won at least 50 games, which is also the league's longest active streak and the longest for a Celtics era since the 80s. As a reminder, it's 2026.

Considering the context around their season as we got things started back in October, it's honestly pretty remarkable that this is where we are. Remember, this team was 5-7 midway through November. All the questions of how they would survive without Tatum, how all the young and unproven rotation players would pan out, how Joe Mazzulla would look without a collection of big name talent, and most importantly, how Jaylen Brown would do as the #1 guy who was now tasked with carrying this team until Tatum's eventual return.

So you can understand now that the Celtics have punched their playoff ticket, secured another 50+ win season, and are looking in great shape to finish with a top 2 seed, Jaylen Brown did not waste the opportunity to talk his shit

You know what? Hell yeah. We were all pretty wrong when it came to the 2025-26 Celtics. I know I was. I had them high 30s/low 40s if the young guys hit, and it's safe to say they blew that shit right out of the water. I just figured things would go how they normally do when young players with no NBA experience are thrown into the fire. Usually, there are growing pains. What's crazy is even if you were wildly optimistic and thought they could win 45-48 games…..you were wrong too!

And for Jaylen, a player having an incredible season that could very well see him finish 1st Team All NBA (definitely no lower than 2nd), I feel like if anyone has earned the right to talk his shit a little bit, it's Jaylen. Most 30 balls of any player in the East, a playmaking leap, a rebounding leap, a FT shooting leap, it's all been better than all of our wildest dreams so in my book, that guy gets to puff his chest out a little bit given what all the talk was about his ability to lead this team without Tatum.

The best part? Not only is Tatum now back, he looks INCREDIBLE

If back in October someone were to tell you that not only would the Celtics win 50+ games, Jaylen will have an All NBA caliber season, they'll most likely finish a top 2 seed with Tatum not only coming back, but looking like Vintage Tatum after only 11 games in his return, not a soul on earth would believe you.

As I always say, perspective is important. I think we all need to just take a minute and appreciate what we're watching. From a gap year to the Celtics being a legit title contender. Who thought this was going to be possible on May 12th, 2025? Maybe eventually, but right the fuck away? No chance.

It all just feels like a dream. And while there's certainly more work to do over the next few months, I do think it's only right we take a moment and raise our collective glasses to celebrate what we've seen up until this point. What a team, what a season.

P.S.

For those also tracking at home, Joe Mazzulla has never won fewer than 50 games at any point in his head coaching career. As I told you from literally Day 1, Mazzula Ball is something serious. There's truly no one better in the entire sport. Argue a wall.
