Ruth's Chris Steakhouse Is Single Handedly Bringing Society Back From The Brink By Enforcing A Business Casual Dress Code And Not Allowing Hats In The Dining Room

A popular steakhouse is back in the spotlight over its dress code — and social media commenters have strong feelings about it.

Ruth's Chris Steak House is drawing fresh attention for its "business casual" dress code requiring "proper attire" — with diners who don't comply potentially relegated to the bar.

"Kindly remove all hats when entering the restaurant," its website states. "Guests wearing ball caps are asked to dine in the bar/lounge."

"The following attire is not permitted in our dining rooms: Gym wear, pool attire, tank tops, clothing with offensive graphics or language, revealing clothing or exposed undergarments," the notice continues.

While recent reports have framed the move as a crackdown, the policy has appeared on the restaurant's website for years, according to internet archives. This suggests the current debate may be driven more by recent enforcement — and viral social media discussion — than a new rule.

I, for one, am thrilled about this even if it's been a rule for a while. Unless you're new around here, you know I am in favor of enforcing guardrails on our society. I don't need to dive deep into the sociological impacts of how we speak, dress, and act, but plenty of folks far smarter than me have done the research. The research says if we comport ourselves better in public, society improves.

I am not out here trying to be the manners police or the fashion police or the gentleman police.

Ok FINE! Maybe I am the police of all those areas but someone has to be because we clearly cannot police ourselves.

That's where Ruth's Chris comes into play. It's not too much to ask to present oneself in a respectable manner and reap the benefits of that behavior. Too often I hear the jamokes cry, "Ohhh who are you to tell other people what to wear?" You know what, some people need to be told. When people are told what to wear, they typically behave in a certain way.

I know someone who might get behind dress codes in steakhouses - Spittin Chiclets/TNT/Former NHL enforcer/handsome gentleman/ Paul Bissonnette

Perhaps if those hooligans were not allowed in the restaurant that night then they wouldn't have attacked Paul. Just saying, he might support dress codes, that's all.

Truthfully, I can't tell if I should retire from this crusade or rev up the engines. People have expressed their support and others express their displeasure with me (but that comes for a number of other reasons too lol) but just trust I have the country's best interest in mind. So does Tony.

I'll make everyone a deal. We try things the new (old) way for 2026 and if it doesn't work I will stop bothering everyone about it. I will likely still bother you for other reasons but you won't see any more of these blogs.

One thing we can all agree on?

People always sound like a toddler with a lisp when they say it so maybe tackle that next.

Make it a great weekend with a dinner at Ruth's Chris in a nice outfit. I love you all.
