The Most Dominant Streak In College Hoops - Gonzaga Has Now Made An Absurd 29 Straight WCC Championship Games
I don't care about the fact they've gotten a bye to the semifinals since 2003. I don't care that people like to shit on the WCC. The fact you've made 29 straight championship games is an absurd number. We're talking a 6 year streak of doing it a 'normal' way and then another run of being in the semis. This also includes runs with Saint Mary's, BYU, Santa Clara, Todd Golden at San Francisco, all these iterations of the WCC.
It might even more impressive that Gonzaga is constantly a top-2 seed in the WCC. Again, it's not a power conference, but you have teams that send guys to the pros, it's a multi-bid league. I never thought it was as bad as people like to shit on it. It also leads to the argument I saw constantly yesterday. So many people bitching about mid-majors needing protected because the tournament can end their season with 1 shot and we lost Navy, UNC-Wilmington and other top seeds
It's pretty bizarre how people bitch there's no Cinderella and then when we get that in conference tournaments it's the end of the world. It's pretty simple to me. The regular season is for seeding or any benefit in the conference tournament - it could be home court advantage (Navy), it could be byes or anything else like that. But we're not ruining March because of upsets only to then bitch about no upsets a week from now.
This is back to Gonzaga though. What a run. It's the most dominant streak I can think of in college hoops. Again, to not slip once in a game over 29 years is absurd. Also made me remember some of the old school Gonzaga greats. They need to bring back this look:
