End Of An Era In DC: John Carlson Traded To The Ducks

This is one of those tough, toughhhhhhh trades where you have to remember the NHL is a business and blah blah blah. Because seeing John Carlson in another team's sweater sucks. He is Washington DC. He's been in this organization for 17 years. We've watched him do it all on the ice, including lifting the Cup. He holds more or less every Caps defenseman record. He's a community warrior, a great dude- everything you want in a hockey player.

And then there is the trade itself. Getting a 1st rounder for him, a free-agent to be, is a great deal. The Ducks are getting 2 months of Carly and had to depart with 2 picks in order to do so. It's a huge win for the Caps.

That's what sucks about the business. Being a GM must be depressing at times like these. Having to trade one of the cornerstones of the organization for the last 2 decades can't feel good. But knowing it's best for the future of the franchise, you have to do it. I'm sure Carly understands. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck though.

There are now only 2 members of the 2018 Cup team left- Ovi and Wilson. And the more the season goes on, the more it seems like that number will be down to 1 by the start of next season. Man. Truly the end of an era. Thanks for the good times and great memories, JC74.
