United Airlines Is Implementing A REQUIREMENT That Passengers Use Headphones, And Those Who Refuse Could Be Removed From Flights And Potentially Banned For Life

There's very few more annoying things on an airplane than people who listen to things without headphones. It may fit in my top 10, but here's a not-in-order list of some of the other things:

  1. Reclining — makes sense to make the most controversial one the first one listed. One of our social dudes asked employees in the office what they thought of people doing it:

Personally I think you're an asshole because you don't get enough reward for what you're doing and you're inevitably ruining the experience for the person behind you, especially during food or beverage service when that tray is holding on for dear life.

   2. Leaners and sprawlers — Uhh, nothing more to say than to show you the Mintzy photo:

  3.  Taking your shoes off — If I can have my shoes on the entire flight, you can too bro.

   4.  Poor hygiene — I like this new headphones requirement but deodorant should probably be one too and they may as well have some extra if you just so happened to forget the number one thing to be a functioning human in society.

  5. Smelly food — Remember that woman who brought the entire seafood boil into coach and said she was turning coach into First Class?

  6. Abusing overhead bin space — If you put more than one item in the overhead bin space, you can't function in society normally. Unless the flight is empty and by the time everyone boards there's tons of space left, otherwise, you're just an asshole.

  7. The people who rush to deplane — You're sitting in 27D for a reason, wait the extra 5 minutes and let everybody deplane in order so it takes the least amount of possible time.

I'm probably missing some but headphones would squeeze somewhere right in there in the top 10 surely. It's the same as loud conversations, if you can't respect the people around you by realizing they don't want to hear you talk about how you're flying to see your kid in college who you haven't seen in 23 days, then you shouldn't be flying. I don't make the rules.

Headphone etiquette and loud conversations might actually slide up higher if it's late at night and people are trying to sleep. Anyway, what a great rule by United. It may not be my first choice of airline but it may be jumping up the list after this and Starlink on every flight. That'd require a different blog but Starlink on planes is an absolute gamechanger. Nothing like being able to scroll your feed with zero interruptions and watch as many videos as you want. Go United go!
