Harrison Ford Gave An All Time Speech After Winning The SAG Lifetime Achievement Award Last Night
Last night, the Actors Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards) were held on Netflix - shaking up the Oscars race with some upsets, confirming other surefire winners who were already heavy favorites, and being the only award show to feature our guy Lukey Lunchbox….
I actually thought it was a pretty good show aside from Kristen Bell as the host. I like her but it just never clicked last night - sooo many awkward moments; but I digress. The reason I’m writing a blog about this is because Harrison Ford was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and gave one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard at one of these things.
Woody Harrelson inducted him, immediately joking that he was NOT Harrison’s first choice (apparently Helen Mirren was) and then spoke a little about their friendship - but he never took himself too seriously and had the room cracking up. In fact, he even berated the room for not giving him enough like he was up there at Open Mic Night. It was hilarious.
After that, they threw to a highlight reel of Ford’s career, which was just stunning to watch. Even as a massive Harrison Ford fan, there were plenty of movies I had forgotten about or haven't even seen, which really made me want to watch and go through his entire filmography. It was just hit after hit with just about every director and co-star you could dream of - even without Star Wars and Indiana Jones!
Then it was time for Harrison’s acceptance speech. He made his way to the stage through a standing ovation of his peers, remarked how strange it was to receive a Lifetime Achievement award only halfway through his career (nailed it) - and then absolutely captivated the room for the next few minutes he was up there. Every single celebrity at that venue - no matter how famous or successful - was locked in, hanging on every word that came out of Harrison’s mouth. He was super emotional, as well - which of course had tears streaming down my face as I watched….but give me a break! It was like seeing your dad cry! But worse! It’s seeing Han Solo cry!

It was perfect, though. Harrison came off so humbled and grateful for the recognition and his career (which I hope goes on another fifty years) and I think everyone was absolutely thrilled for him and happy to give him his flowers.
Hopefully if you missed it, you'll give it a watch because of this blog.
P.S. If the legends are true, Woody and Harrison could outsmoke anybody you’ve ever met or even heard of. Talk about a dream blunt rotation.
