The People Who Are Mad At Tigers Prospect Max Clark For Wearing Some Serious Bling During Games Are The Biggest Dorks In The World
There's been a lot of talk around baseball twitter about Tigers prospect Max Clark, who MLB.com has listed as their #10 youngster. But the talk hasn't been about his play as much as it's been about his look and what he wears during the games. Clark is a flashy kid, we knew this about him when he was drafted #3 overall out of high school in 2023, he likes to look cool and wear sick gear. Is that a crime? Not at all, but it seems to have caught the attention of folks on twitter and boy are they upset at it. During a game this week he took the field and was iced out, I mean fully decked out in diamond necklaces that were so bright there is a chance you could see it from space. He also wears eyeblack and is covered in tattoos. Does it harm anyone? Nope, and I truly don't know how or why anyone has issues with what a guy wears during a game. You're telling me a 21 year-old who signed for $7.7 million out of high school likes jewelry and tattoos? No way!
Now I will say, it's not the greatest visual when you are iced out and happen to flat out drop and misplay 2 balls in a game, I for sure can see how and why that would upset people. It also doesn't help that he slipped making a throw, forgot the count and just had an overall brutal game. But if you think he dropped those balls and made those mistakes because of his 10 necklaces than you're just a fool. He's a guy who marches to the beat of his own drum and that's perfectly okay. He's a damn good player who's going to help this Tigers team pretty soon, and you can guarantee he'll be wearing his 43 necklaces when he makes it to Detroit. But the amount of people hating on him for dropping these balls (again, I get it, bad look) and connecting it to what he was is bogus.
He's a flashy and charismatic guy, that's not going to change. But the only way the idiots are going to stop talking is if he plays well and catches a fly ball or two. The kid has had one bad inning and every twitter account looking for a payday is trying to dunk on him for it, that's just the epitome of the internet nowadays. It's never been a bad thing to play a game with flair and passion, that's what Max says he has. He's not the first AA player to have a bad game and he won't be the last, I'm just floored at the amount of shit he's getting from the dorks on baseball twitter. But at the end of the day….this is spring training. He wasn't going to break camp with the big league squad, he didn't cost them a game in October so who gives a shit? Aaron Judge dropped a fly ball in the World Series, Max Clark is allowed to drop a few in a spring training game. Now if you're going to peacock your way around the clubhouse I recommend not making those errors, but it happens. Guys without chains and custom cleats drop fly balls every day in baseball, he'll drop a few more before his career is done and my guess is he'll bounce back from them.

Now say this kid turns into an All-Star, you can bet your ass this will be shown on the pregame show and talked about all week about how he had to go through this adversity and how it made him a better player. I truly don't give a shit what a player wears during a game, but in todays day and age I guess it's a crime to have a bad game. I also like the people saying "Take the chains off until you make a play", like Ron from accounting would stop wearing a bowtie if he fucked up a TPS report, I'm sure that would happen. I hope he comes out wearing more chains next time, maybe he'll wear cleats made of solid gold. Maybe the grown ups mad at a guy in AA should just chill out.
