California Baptist University Threatens to Forfeit Wrestling Program’s Final Match Ever

This is just downright sad and disappointing leadership from the athletics department at California Baptist. CBU came out and announced they were cutting three sports prior to joining the Big West Conference, and their wrestling program was one of them. So the wrestling team decided that for their last-ever match, they wanted to wear basic singlets that don't have any imaging of CBU. We have seen this in the past, and it actually worked with Stanford back in 2021.

Stanford University still has a wrestling team to this day. I get where CBU was coming from — they want a voice and want to be heard. The Deputy AD in the video, who appears to be Joey Logan, was an absolute piece of shit and jackass. Joey was forcing the team into a corner, trying to get them to crack under pressure and just wrestle in the CBU singlets.

A crazy piece to this story (if true) is that a wrestler’s text messages got leaked talking about how CBU is sending extra administrators to all the meets (if this sport is failing and not making any money, why are you spending more?) to make sure no wrestler breaks the document they were FORCED to sign to continue wrestling, pretty much stating they will keep wearing the CBU gear.

Joey even said, “Do you want to wrestle your last match or not?” and to that, I would have said, Fuck you. If it is their last match EVER, who gives a shit?

From what I have found, it looks like the team wrestled in their CBU singlets, but did get their third win of the season and the last victory for the wrestling program ever. It is a damn shame CBU would not let these kids voice their opinions and were threatening them by canceling their last match ever. When one of the wrestlers said, “We want to have a voice,” there was basically no response from Joey, and he said, “Your voice is the sweatshirts you walk out with.”

People in the comments of the video actually found Joey's number on the CBU website and lit him up, making the university take his phone number off the website. Now you can say Joey was the messenger and don’t kill the messenger, but he was not allowing any discussions to take place and told the kids how it’s going to be. CBU should be ashamed.
