It Is With a Heavy Heart That I Report Cam Newton's BET Show '106 & Sports' (Produced By LeBron James) Has Been Cancelled After Just 8 Episodes

Additionally, it is with a regularly weighted heart that I report Cam Newton had a BET show called '106 & Sports' produced by LeBron James.

Awful Announcing – BET has canceled 106 & Sports, the sports-focused spinoff of the network’s beloved 106 & Park music video countdown show that Newton and CBS sports analyst Ashley Nicole Moss announced during the BET Awards last June. BET confirmed the cancellation to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, saying the network “will not produce additional seasons of 106 & Sports,” while noting the eight-episode first season will continue to live across BET platforms.

The show debuted Oct. 15 on BET+ and ran for a single season before the plug was pulled, which is a remarkably short run for a show that arrived with significant fanfare and a high-profile production setup. According to Complex, the hour-long talk show was recorded at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, featured towering LED displays, elevated audience seating, and a large central stage, and was backed by SpringHill Studios with executive producers including LeBron James and Maverick Carter. That’s a lot of infrastructure for a show that didn’t make it past its first eight episodes.

Who knew? Not me. And I consider myself a fan of all things Cam Newton. I loved him as a player. I love him on ESPN when pops up on First Take in his finest Halloween costume to talk down to Stephen A. Smith on his very serious sports show.

I love Cam Newton when he gets upset with Alabama A&M's Butch The Bulldog for touching his hat, and throws a wild haymaker at him on College Gameday.

I love the certifiably unhinged clips that come out of his podcast, '4th & 1 with Cam Newton'.

And I especially love him when he talks about the Big Ten. I have a working theory that Cam Newton is a Trojan Horse-esque sleeper agent turned by the Big Ten to infiltrate ESPN and make SEC homers look like big dumb idiots from the inside.

But sadly, '106 & Sports' (produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter) never came across my desk. I must have been in the restroom during this portion of last year's BET Awards.

To be fair, BET didn't give me much of a chance to learn about the show. I can't find a single social media account dedicated to '106 & Sports'. It's a bit of a challenge to find clips from the show posted anywhere at all. Even on BET's TikTok account, it takes some scrolling before you come across this Cam Newton's Top 5 Moments on '106 & Sports' highlight reel.

To be fair, it's been a couple months since the conclusion of their first season. I just thought it would have received a little bit more promotion. When you have a personality like Cam Newton who's liable to go viral for one thing or another every time he opens his mouth, you've gotta put more shots up. But they didn't, and his show was cancelled after only 8 episodes. Which is just about the shortest lived sports show I've seen that wasn't produced by Barstool Sports.

Keep you're head up, Cam Newton. We'd hate to see your hat fall off again. Take this time to focus on "disparaging" the Big Ten wink-wink, belittling Stephen A. Smith on his own program, and cutting the most electric podcast clips to ever grace the internet. And maybe fight another mascot. I really enjoyed that.
