The Oshawa Generals (Canadian Junior Hockey Team) Had To Send Out An Email To Their Fans Practically Begging Them To Shower Before Going To Games

You have the sweaty, mildewy equipment mixing with the smell of the Zamboni exhaust. You have burnt coffee mixed with the faint scent of booze still seeping out of the pores of the alcoholic dads in the stands. Some fries from the snack bar mixed with the rubber floor mats. To the untrained nose, hockey rinks definitely don't smell great. But to those who love it? It's a unique smell that you just can't get enough of.
But there's a difference between hockey stink, and someone who just smells like shit. And apparently, the OHL's Oshawa Generals are dealing with the latter when it comes to some of their fans showing up to the arena this season. I can't even begin to imagine how bad someone has to stink, and how frequently they have to smell that bad, to require the team to send out an email to their season ticket holders begging them to shower before games.
Most teams giveaway things like bobbleheads and tshirts for fan appreciation games. The Oshawa Generals are going to have to start handing out deodorant and wash cloths.
The Oshawa Generals are a storied organizations in the OHL. You think of some of the all-time greats who have worn a Generals sweater. Guys like Bobby Orr, Eric Lindros, John Tavares, Marc Savard, Dick Gamble. This is an organization that has won 5 Memorial Cups. And now they're an organization that has the stinkiest fans in hockey.
You gotta love how they tried to dance around this one, too. Bringing up things like "hand sanitizing stations" and "please cover your mouth when coughing". You know the entire reason they sent out this email is because someone in the crowd smells like absolute death at every game, and they need to find a way to force them into the shower.
Until then, season ticket holders in Oshawa might need to start training on holding their breath.
