Whatever It Takes: Joel Dahmen Got A Sponsor's Exemption Into The Waste Management By Writing A Letter On A Polo, Promised To Keep His Shirt On This Year

I love everything about this. Sponsor's exemptions aren't anything new, we get them all the time, people like to bitch. But, Joel Dahmen deserves to be in the Waste Management. He had one of the more memorable moments with this a couple years ago:

It's one of the rare times that we get to see personality from golfers, an environment where people aren't losing their minds over the slightest bit of noise or anything like that. Dahmen embraced it. Not to mention he's coming off a top-10 at Torrey Pines. He played well, not like anyone was catching Justin Rose last week anyways, so a top-10 is worth celebrating. Plus it also got him into another tournament in a few weeks from now.

Then there's the interview with Riggs and the tournament chair. That right there is how you do it. You get told the most important guy of the event is going to be in the same place you are. You do whatever it takes if you want a job. We've lost a lot of follow up, letters, stop-ins, stuff us olds know too much about

A good old fashioned letter, talking up a person and learning about them. That's how you used to get jobs or get something you wanted. Joel Dahmen brought it to the next level, called back his viral moment and got a spot. No problem here with that. It's a great story, let's see if he can get another top-10 or something and play his way into more events. Let the boys have a time out there.
