The Conspiracy Over Darryn Peterson's Injury Completely Robbed Us Of The Peterson vs Dybantsa Showdown That College Hoops Needed
For those who have been in the college basketball world all year, this isn't new. For those that are finally starting to watch because there's no football on this weekend, welcome. Yesterday was supposed to be this individual showdown. It was supposed to be AJ Dybantsa vs Darryn Peterson, the likely top-2 picks in the NBA Draft coming up. Two guys that are freaks when it comes to what they can do on the court. Two guys that had games against each other last year in high school that were constantly talked about.
It was supposed to be shades of Jimmer vs Kawhi. If you're also old, you remember staying up until 11pm and seeing that game on a channel called Versus. Yeah, welcome to MWC basketball back in the day. Either way, it was a matchup that people waited to see. You can go down the list over the years of matchups like this. But, with it falling on the first Saturday without football, all attention on it because the slate yesterday was kinda bad.
And we got robbed. The first half was a Darryn Peterson legacy type game.
We were staring down the type of game that people would talk about decades later - like Kevin Durant at Kansas back in the day. Then it happened. Peterson took himself out of the game and didn't play the last 16 minutes.
Again, if you've been watching college basketball you know this isn't new. There's been this lingering cramp situation forever. However, it's now a full blown conspiracy that he's just load managing and it might not even be him making the call. It's all people started talking about
You get the point. People are now only talking about what kind of injury Peterson has, is he even hurt, things along that nature. It sucks. It sucks because BYU made it a game the 2nd half. This is what BYU does. They suck in the first half, go down by 20 and then it's chaos the last 3 minutes of the game. But instead of talking about a legacy game or the showdown, it's injury talk. It sucks for the sport. I'll say it. The sport is better when you have these All-American players going at it, on national TV and looking to kick each other's ass. Yesterday was supposed to be the welcoming to college hoops for everyone. A 4:30 national spot, people slap it on, you see that first half and then nothing.
We don't get to see this matchup again unless they play in the postseason. That's the worst part of it all. America needs a Peterson vs Dybantsa matchup in the Big 12 Tournament. This time, both guys have to play 35 minutes no matter what.
