The Ravens Just Hired A Defensive STUD To Be Their Next Head Coach

WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Minter was a guy at the top of damn near everybody's list this offseason and we got him. A guy who turned what was a pretty pisspoor defense in LA into one of the most formidable squads in the NFL over the last 2 years, as well as winning a national championship at Michigan with Jim Harbaugh.

The easy comparison here is Mike McDonald. Understandably so. Many are belly-aching here in Baltimore as of recent that he was in our building and he was the one who got away. Of course, it's nonsense to think we were going to make a change after hosting an AFCCG (which is when he left to go to Seattle), but the overlap with him and Minter is obvious. Both were on the Ravens defensive staff in years' past, McDonald left to go to Michigan to be their DC before coming back to Baltimore for the same job here, and Minter backfilled him there.

There was a lot of analysis at the top of the search that circulated around Lamar Jackson and leveraging his skills. That is perfectly fair. But the reality is the biggest shortcoming in playoff disappointments in the Lamar era is that the defense has given him virtually NOTHING in big games. 3 takeaways in 10 elimination games in that period is so so soooo terrible. And then the toxic trait of the regular season Ravens in recent years is that they simply cannot hold a lead. Literally the blown lost kings.

Getting a defense first guy that can resolve those issues and create some semblance of a damn pass rush will serve this team best in the long run. Lamar and the offense certainly have their own shortcomings, but their floor (and subsequent room for improvement) is much higher. We'll go get an OC that will get the best out of him and the rest of that side of the ball, they'll probably leave to get a HC gig themselves, and we'll perpetually be one of the most marketable launching pad coordinator roles in the league.

Besides just getting a fresh voice in here to get some of the choker stink out of here… this guy has got some fire. Love him waving Ohio State out of the Big House after a big win a couple years back.

And guess whose position group had that same energy after a big win a few years back?

Big time energy, big time hire, now let's go get the right coordinators, get an extension for Lamar, and let's roll.

Great day to be a Baltimore football fan.
