We have Our First Look At Sophie Turner As Lara Croft

As someone who liked both the games and the Jolie movies, I don't really love this. My reasoning is that I think anyone portraying the character needs to check 3 boxes. They need to be strong, hot and cool. Jolie had all 3. Physical, obviously beautiful and was just cool as all hell. There was an aura there that took her to another level. Alicia Vikander, who is almost undoubtably a better actress than Jolie, didn't have that physicality or aura either. As far as Sophie Turner goes, I think she has the look and physicality. The problem is that she just does not have the aura in my opinion.

For some background on this series, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the show runner. She wrote and starred in the very good 'Fleabag', and has some other solid work as well. Some people might unfortunately know her as the co-protagonist of 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny', but lets forget about that. She is a very funny writer and is a solid person to have in the lead here.

As far as the cast outside of Turner, the only people you might know are Sigourney Weaver, who obviously played one of the most iconic female action stars ever in Ripley, and Jason Isaacs, who you probably know as the asshole British Captain from 'The Patriot'.

I think a successful Tomb Raider entry will do a few things:

1. You gotta get on location. Go to the exotic places that your adventure takes place. Don't shoot this is some poorly-lit green screen stage and tell us it's somewhere cool.

2. You cannot make this a girl power show. Think of every great female action character in history. Have any of them had to stop and tell the audience "You think I can't do this because I'm a girl??". No. They show you who they are through action.

3. Really invest in the action. Send Turner to whatever crew taught stars like Keanu. Hire the best fight and gunplay coordinators. Use blanks, not VFX.

4. Do not make this quirky. PWB is a funny writer, but Croft is COOL.
