Things No One Wants - Rob Manfred Says That They Have Considered A Split Season And Possibly An In-Season Tournament
Rob Manfred truly is the king of dumb ideas and trying to bring things to the game that no baseball fans want, he is the undisputed king. Remember when he told us about his "golden batter" rule? Good stuff bozo. But this latest word vomit display by Manfred may be some of their worst ideas yet. He went on WFAN to lay out his whole plan and my god is it awful, 2029 can't come soon enough. I need this guy out of baseball ASAP. Evan Drellich dove into what Mr. Commish was saying for The Athletic and boy oh boy are there some funky ideas.
Manfred addressed his wishlist for things he wants to see come to baseball before he leaves in 2029 and literally none of it is good. We have ABS coming this year, he talked about expansion and wanting to get to 32 teams, tossed around the always fun divisional realignment idea, talked about the salary cap and floor, touched on how he doesn't think there will be a lockout in 2027 (sure buddy), he wants to implement an international draft, but his crown jewel idea was all about a split MLB Season and a possibly an in-season tournament. Who on earth wants that as a baseball fan? Not a single fan of the game needs or wants this, why on earth does Manfred think things like this are necessary to the game?
Baseball is in a GREAT spot currently, I believe their revenue was around $12 BILLION in 2024, why mess with it with something as silly as an in-season tournament? No one gives a shit about the NBA Cup Rob, no one. Don't push this on baseball and it's fans, you think it's a good idea but it's not. Maybe just respect the game as it currently stands and let it be? He's done a good job with the pitch clock and the expanded playoffs, those have been hits. But every other idea this guy proposes or brings to the table makes me want to eat a baseball, stop trying to ruin the sport!
Maybe fix blackouts and viewing restrictions first Rob, maybe make sure your umpires are competent and stop blowing games first, maybe put a stop to teams deferring payments for 50 years, stop trying to fix what isn't broken. And the split schedule thing, in what world is this something fans or teams want? Baseball doesn't have the same issue the NBA does which prompted the in-season NBA Cup, no one is begging for something like this. Believe it or not Rob, the baseball season and schedule is perfect for their fanbase. We love it! You hear the murmurs of "we need less games", I'm not in that camp but I get why folks say it, but it's not a large group of fans who want that. No one wants to cut the season in half and take a break, plus adding this silly tournament. Just ridiculous ideas thrown all around by the dumbest man in baseball, absolutely awful proposals all around.
We have the WBC and that is enough, it's a good product that doesn't impact the schedule in the regular season, it works. We saw the outrage when Edwin Diaz tore up his knee in the WBC, now imagine that for a meaningless in-season tournament? I truly can't imagine what made them think this would be a good idea to throw out there, it's mind bottling how dumb these suits are. We don't want a split season or an MLB Cup or a golden batter, we want a commissioner who loves the game of baseball. Simple as that, leave the game alone, make sure we get baseball in 2027 and then get the hell out of here. That's my proposal for you Mr. Manfred.
