Miami Advances to a Home National Championship Game After Outlasting Ole Miss in an All-Time CFP Classic

Holy hell, what a football game. I'm sure someone will be happy to correct me, but off the top of my head, that's the best postseason game we've seen in the College Football Playoff era — at least certainly the best fourth quarter. I didn't want the game to ever end.

It seemed like Miami, despite dominating much of the game on the ground, may have let this one slip away by making one too many mistakes. I genuinely believe if the Hurricanes ran the ball on every single offensive snap, they'd have won this game something like 27-13. Ole Miss had no answer for Mark Fletcher, but for some reason Miami insisted upon letting Carson Beck try to sling the ball at some critical times that likely took points off the board.

But when they needed it the most, Beck led the Canes all the way down the field for a 15-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to send Miami to a national title game in its home stadium after being the final at-large team in the CFP field. And Beck capped it off by running in the game-winning score himself.

The Hurricanes are obviously an incredible story, but you can't help but feel for Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss. They were stranded by their head coach and left for dead and came as close as any team possibly can to a berth in the national championship. But I have no doubt that quarterback will have his team right back in position to do this again in 2026.

What a game. Congrats to the Canes for getting it done. Hard Rock Stadium is going to be a zoo in 11 days.

RIP Ben Mintz.
