Lane Kiffin Has Recalled Ole Miss' WR Coach George McDonald And TE Coach Joe Cox Back To LSU Ahead Of Tomorrow's Fiesta Bowl

God I love Lane Kiffin. Everything about him. I don't know if he's a "good guy" or a "bad guy". But boy does he make college football entertaining. Everybody is always complaining about the current state of the sport. I'm inclined to agree with them in a lot of cases. But when it comes to all the off-season/playoff-season bullshit that the insanely fucking stupid college football calendar creates... as infuriating as it can be... it sure is fun to watch.

What a ridiculous situation these coaches under Lane Kiffin are in. They have a real chance to become National Champions. They just beat the Georgia Bulldogs – one of the favorites to win it all. Ohio State proved to not be what we thought they were. The only thing that stands in their way is a 2-loss Miami Hurricanes team, and the winner of Indiana and Oregon. Sure, Ole Miss will still be underdogs from here on out. But the College Football National Championship is way more up for grabs than we ever expected it to be at this point. Ole Miss is so close they can taste it.

Unfortunately, the only reason these position coaches have this opportunity is because of Lane Kiffin. I know every coach's situation is different, but you know some (if not all) of these guys feel like they owe A LOT to him. They have their futures to think about. They have families to take care of. So at the end of the day, who are they going to hitch their wagon to? First time head coach Pete Golding who's having immediate success running Lane Kiffin's offense with the roster Lane Kiffin built. Or Lane Kiffin himself, who's at a school with unlimited resources and the entire state of Louisiana at its back. Who seemingly has his pick of any transfer quarterback in the nation.

It would be a noble and heroic thing to say, "Fuck you Lane Kiffin. I don't like the way you do business. I'm sticking with Ole Miss."

But if Lane Kiffin tells you it's time to come back to Baton Rouge or he's replacing you with someone else, and you start thinking about what your life is going to look like 3 years from now, you're probably going to listen.

I'm not sure how much a TE and WR coach are going to matter on game day. I'm sure they have important roles. But they're not calling the plays. As of now, Charlie Weiss Jr. is still allowed to coach Ole Miss. Not that anybody would be surprised if Lane Kiffin decided to pull that rug out from underneath them too. Maybe tomorrow Lane will really lean into the whole super villain thing and steal Charlie away a few hours before kick-off.

Hell of a situation Ole Miss has on their hands. If they beat Miami tomorrow, we might just see Pete Golding coaching the National Championship by himself, while Lane Kiffin and Louisiana's cartoon governor look down upon him from a suite like the super villains they are.
