It Just Means More: Bucky McMillan Claims The Refs Overturned Auburn's Win Because They Owed Texas A&M A Make-Up Call From The Play Before
In case you missed it late last night we had fucking chaos in college basketball. Auburn thought they had a win, refs review it, overturn it and all hell broke loose. Fans losing their minds, Auburn losing their minds, people still fighting if the shot was off on time or not. Good times! Better than talking about the death of the sport at least. But this is now from the A&M angle, because Bucky McMillan said something I've never heard before from a coach:
I can't find video of the clock malfunction, but here's the back story:
[Source] - Isaacs returned to the line and sent a chest pass toward the rim, slamming against the backboard before falling into the arms of an Auburn player. Play was stopped by the officials with six tenths of a second remaining so a review could judge whether the ball hit the rim.
By rule, had Isaacs missed the rim, the clock would not have stopped and Auburn would have had the full two seconds for a final offensive possession. However, the final verdict was that the ball grazed the rim and play was stoped with time remaining on the clock.
McMillan believed the clock should have run out before the review was initiated.
Yeah, that's correct! It's why I'm starting to get sick of reviews and replays. We had two reviews in the last .6 seconds of a game that never should have happened. I said it in the blog last night, they are ruining the end of games. I get we want to get every call right, but that's just not the case. If it was, we'd review all the shitty foul calls that refs do to ruin games. Instead we pretend like nothing matters until the end of games and then stop everything to review. At least we got rid of reviewing every out of bounds call and added coaches challenges.
I've just never seen a coach directly say the refs owed them a make-up call. In fact he wants Auburn fans to boo because he's know he's right:

Oh and whether it's weird or not, he then immediately trolled the call in a promo for the next game
Yeah, this former high school coach turned SEC coach is going to fit in just fine. What a bizarre ending that could only happen to Auburn.
