The Thought Of John Harbaugh Coaching The Giants Is The Most Excited I've Been As A Giants Fan In Years

There it is. The solution to all the Giants problems! Okay, hiring John Harbaugh doesn't make Joe Schoen a good general manager, add depth to a shallow team due to multiple draft misses, or put an end to nepotism that has plagued the Giants front office during this fall from grace. But man, having a great head coach can fix a whole lot for a football team, along with potentially leading to a new GM since Harbaugh likely has to sway to choose his running mate with a new franchise. Harbaugh is the closest thing the Giants can get to a Get Out Of Football Hell Free card these days and I hope the franchise realizes that.

I know Ravens fans were ready to move on because of the blown leads, playoff losses, and overall staleness of the Harbaugh experience. Eagles fans felt the same way when their team fired Andy Reid go more than a decade ago. Much like Reid, this could be exactly what both sides need to move forward. The fact remains coaches that put up these type of numbers don't become available very often, if ever.

Harbaugh also has a knack for hiring the right coaches that fit his personnel and isn't afraid to move on from them if things aren't working (most famously firing offensive coordinator Cam Cameron during the 2012 season right before going on a Super Bowl run with Jim Caldwell taking over from mid-December forward). Even if you don't like some of Harbaugh's hires over the years, I can promise you he would never stand for the Maras sticking him with Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator to groom his second year QB who showed promise as a rookie.

You can obviously credit some of Harbaugh's success on the Ravens front office that always seems to make the right move or pick the guy that has fallen way too far in the draft and becomes an All-Pro contributor for years. But why would knowing a bunch of good front office execs be a bad thing? If anything, Harbaugh has contacts in that front office that he could bring to the Giants with him to replace Schoen or any of the roles in the front office when the Giants inevitably shift things due to the ownership shakeup that feels like could be coming soon. Hell, we are already getting names of faceless front office guys we know nothing about and getting excited Schoen could get Baalke'd by Harbaugh.

Look at what noted ball knower Dickie V has to say about it!

Now even though the Giants have potential franchise players at QB, WR, LT, and EDGE along with the number five pick, some cap space, and ownership that has a great reputation despite the last decade of losing football, I don't think Harbaugh is a lock to come here. There is no reason to give Giants ownership the benefit of the doubt considering their hires over the last decade are Dave Gettleman, Joe Schoen, Ben McAdoo, Pat Shurmur (this still makes me want to puke all these years later), Joe Judge, and Brian Daboll. A lot can happen during the interview process and around the NFL, which could include playoff teams with enticing situations moving on from their coaches if they lose in the first round (I'm looking at you with fear in my eyes, Buffalo).

So where does this leave us? With me feeling like the Giants have been in a playoff game since news broke Harbaugh was fired last night. You know the feeling, a mix of excitement along with the constant presence of fear that everything could fall apart in an instant like our ol' pal Jesse Spano once said.

This will lead to me inevitably constantly refreshing Twitter nonstop, which is already terrible for mental health considering the sludge that's on there these days and only becomes worse when you are waiting for news that won't happen for days. Nonetheless, John Harbaugh becoming available is the most hope I've felt as a Giants fan since they won a road playoff game in Minnesota three years ago, which was yet another blip of happiness followed by a tsunami of sadness, and seemingly the one thing that can unite Giants fans who have been arguing about what's wrong with the team ever since this moment changed the trajectory of the franchise.
