WATCH: The First Trailer For Hugh Jackman's Robin Hood Movie Looks Badass

Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.

Robin Hood has a bit of a checkered history of adaptations to say the least. I would say the best you get out of the story is the very funny 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights', the solid 'Robin & Marian' and the animated fox version. But then you also get the failed Costner, Crowe and Egerton adaptations. With the last two being so recent, I don't know how eager I was to see another swing at everyone's favorite English thief.

After this trailer, though, I'm in. Dark, mysterious and brooding. Almost like something within the world of 'The Northman' which I also loved. Hugh Jackman playing a rough-around-the-edges looking for redemption? Easy to see why he was cast. And the supporting cast is nails. Jodie Comer is one of the finest working actresses and Bill Skarksgard is obviously incredible.

On the back end, this movie has an interesting writer/director in Michael Sarnoski. He made 'Pig', one of my favorite movies of 2021 which features an incredible Nic Cage performance He also did 'A Quiet Place: Day One', which was not really my cup of tea BUT people seemed to like it. It's shot by Pat Scola, who did Sarnoski's previous movies in addition to the beautiful 'Sing Sing'. It was also shot on 35mm film, which you can see in the trailer, and was on location in northern ireland which is awesome.
