O-H-N-O: Miami Dominates Ohio State To Send the Buckeyes Packing Early
A month ago, Ohio State was the undefeated No. 1 team in the country seemingly rolling merrily along to a second straight national title. A Big Ten Championship Game loss to Indiana and quarterfinal College Football Playoff loss to Miami later, the Buckeyes are left stunned and confused as to what the hell just happened.
After OSU lost 13-10 to Indiana, it was fairly easy to explain away for anyone who wanted to do so. The Hoosiers are an undefeated team in their own right, the Buckeyes' defense played well, so on and so forth. But after Ohio State only put up 14 points in their season-ending loss to the Hurricanes, maybe it's time to call into question how good it ever really was to begin with.
Ohio State played three really good teams this season. It went 1-2 in those games and scored a combined 38 points. We thought this was the best team in the country and it may have actually just been the Big Ten's version of Texas A&M. The real schedule frauds were in front of our faces all along and we simply didn't realize it.
There was nothing fluky about the way Miami beat OSU. The Buckeyes' offensive line had absolutely no answer for Reuben Bain and the rest of the Miami front seven. Ohio State's supposedly great defensive front didn't fare much better. Miami just lined up and whipped OSU for 60 minutes.
Nothing about the Hurricanes looks like an ACC team. They have the size and speed of an elite SEC or Big Ten team with a veteran quarterback who was a projected first round pick 18 months ago. We watched a bona fide national title contender tonight; it just wasn't Ohio State.
It seems the CFP committee got it right.
