Bread And Circus: In Honor Of America's 250th Birthday, Trump Announced "The Patriot Games", A Youth Athletic Competition, Made Up Of A Boy and Girl From Every State In The Union.
CNN - President Donald Trump announced Thursday the White House will host the “Patriot Games,” a competition with young athletes from across the county, as part of the celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary next year.
“In the fall, we will host the first ever Patriot Games, an unprecedented four-day athletic event featuring the greatest high school athletes — one young man and one young woman from each state and territory,” Trump said.
Democrats have mocked the athletic competition online, comparing it to “The Hunger Games,” a dystopian young adult novel and popular movie franchise in which children are forced to fight to the death in televised arenas.
The president revealed the plans for the Patriot Games in a video announcement from Freedom 250, which was launched Thursday. It is a “a national, non-partisan organization leading the Administration’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday,” according to a news release.
Trump previously previewed the competition in July, saying at the time it would be televised and led by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy.
Did the Trumpster do it again, or did he do it again?
Just a few things on this really quick.
People are obviously calling this Trump's version of "The Hunger Games", which is a little funny. Except we're not quite there yet. But this is definitely a good first step towards getting there. Establish the foundation of a yearly competition between youth from around the country. Ramp it up year over year. Turn it from the old "physical fitness test" gym class games, into Fight Club, or UFC, and then once people have a thirst for blood, and the ratings are through roof, then you up the ante and go full on Roman Colosseum and gladiator competitions.
I say, if glory and ratings are the intended and disguised objectives here, we cut to the chase and adopt a formula that was already proven to be massively successful.
Bring back Nickelodeon G.U.T.S.
And keep the intro song while you're at it.
If you ask me, this is the kind of shit today that's really missing, and making this kids generation soft as baby shit.
We grew up watching American Gladiators, and G.U.T.S. and how can that not inspire the fuck out of you to get up off your ass, find a hill or mountain to imagine was the Aggro Crag, climb that shit and prove to yourself and all the other kids in the neighborhood that you do in fact, do, dooo, dooo have it- Guts.
From there you naturally graduate to American Gladiators and dreaming of competing in "the assault".
I always said growing up that if American Gladiators was a theme park, where you could go and compete in all of the events they had on the show, that every kid growing up would be begging their parents to take them there. Imagine getting to do "the assault" in real life?

Imagine going there on a day somebody like Diamond was behind the turret? You wouldn't stand a chance.
I don't have all the answers to everything, but I do to this one. Because we already know what works. Don't square peg, round hole this thing. Don't fix what's not broken. Bring back nostalgia and the people will come.

p.s. - do you remember how fucking hard those "Physical Fitness Tests" were every year growing up? As a kid who didn't hit puberty til he was like 16, I couldn't do shit except run. The pushups killed me, the situps weren't easy, but nothing was as hard as the rope climb.
This video is hilarious and so true -
p.p.s. - the tweets have been primo
