Chun-Li & Cammy Kick Ass In 1st Trailer For ‘Street Fighter’ Plus Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, 50 Cent, Eric Andre, Andrew Schulz & Rayna Valladingham Look A+ In Their Iconic Outfits
Admittedly I was never that big of a 'Street Fighter' fan, somehow wasn't in the rotation when I hit the boardwalk arcade. And my parents wouldn't let me play 'Mortal Kombat' on my SEGA Genesis, so it was mostly just Sonic adventures for me.
Point being, I have no loyalty whatsoever to the Street Fighter franchise. And yet, I gotta give them major credit for luring in my interest with their A+ marketing the past few months. Not only crushing it with how they did the casting announcement, but also the vibe of this 1st teaser trailer.
Dare I say… this movie looks like a fun entertaining romp?
Street Fighters Ryu and Ken reunite when Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. As they face a hidden conspiracy, they must confront each other and their past-or face destruction.
I'm not sure if you'd call that style camp but I do love the entire 1990s vibe they have pulsing there. And it doesn't hurt they're actually embracing how fucking demented the entire franchise concept is. Leaning in to how those characters actually look, how kinetic the combat action is, along with the constant over-the-top nature of what a Street Fighter location looks like… That's absolutely huge. You'd think that kind of thing would be elementary, but so many video game adaptions go out of their way to avoid the source material. Makes no goddamn sense. In this case, these character designs look pretty damn sick while also being true to the hardcore lore. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say even if the script is absolute dogshit, I got a good feeling a joint or a smidge of mushrooms will guarantee this is a delightful cinema experience.
This cast is quite the wild lineup too. Variety is the spice of life as they say…

And sure, I might be biased because my #1 karate crush Rayna Valladingham is in it too. I've made it pretty clear before I'll blindly support anything she does. But in my defense, the proof is in the pudding.

Also unfamiliar with Callina Liang, but already seated to on see her leg kick as Chun-Li. She's been putting in WORK for those legendary quads.
If that scroll doesn't inspire you to give this movie a chance, I don't know what will. But I'll add this final nugget from The Game Awards that also gave me hope. Kinda love the 'Street Fighter' cast coming at 'Mortal Kombat'. It's good natured ribbing. If anything, let's get these films going head to head like WWF vs WCW. It can only improve the product for all involved right?
