'That's Why I'm Sitting Here': Hugh Freeze Basically Said He's Out of a Job Because Jackson Arnold Sucks
Get a load of this guy. What an asshole.
Hugh Freeze was fired earlier this season after compiling a 15-19 record in his nearly three years at Auburn, but apparently the only reason he was canned was because Jackson Arnold didn't play very well in 2025. Those first two years of 6-7 and 5-7 while Arnold was at Guyer High School and Oklahoma had nothing to do with it.
I know these players are getting paid now and with that rightfully comes some more just criticism when you don't play the way you're expected to. But for a head coach to say this about one of his own players that he brought in after being fired and sent out the door with a $16 million buyout is beyond insane. Even if you believe in your heart of hearts it's the fault of your sophomore transfer quarterback that you no longer have a job — which it is not — you don't say that to a reporter.
Was Arnold great this season? No. But I have a much longer track record of Freeze doing things to get himself fired than Arnold. Why did Freeze not mention Peyton Thorne or Robby Ashford, both of whom sucked worse than Arnold and played more games at Auburn under Freeze? It seems to me there were some pretty fundamental issues with the offense if nobody looks good in it.
What a scumbag.
