There's Never Been A Dumber Decision Than Letting Harris English And Collin Morikawa Be On The Course Again Today
This was exactly a day ago. Everyone saw it happen, wondered before why the hell did we send Morikawa/English out together on day 1 considering they were 132nd out of 132 in terms of optimal pairings. We all thought, there's no chance you play them together again, it'd be dumb. It'd be borderline illegal to let this happen. Then the pairings came out last night, and, yeah:
Everyone screamed immediately. Why? Because we're not dumb. We knew what would happen and through 9 holes this it was solidifed.
Down 4. Down 4 without even a fight. They won the first hole and then Morikawa hasn't made a putt in forever. It's a pointless pairing. It's punting a matchup when you're down 3. It makes this quote look even worse from Keegan:
What the fuck is the plan? Punt 2 points because you put the worst pairing out there? You can't just rest the horses when you're down 3. You need every point before singles and give yourself a chance. It's impossible to defend, just like neutering this course is impossible to defend. I know Fleetwood/Rory are an awesome pairing, but we're not even making them sweat. Anything can happen in alt shot and we punted. It's so impossibly stupid that I'm mad all over again.
Doesn't help to punt this match when you have Rahm doing this
This might go down as the worst pairing in US Ryder Cup history. It's that bad. I don't care that they won a couple holes late, it was never close.
You had other options. You can't run out the same group who is as bad as this.
